How to get password from acesso.gov.pt to get online NIF number

Hi dear members,

I'm a D7 visa applicant and still waiting for a approval response from the consular. While this waiting period I searched forums to prepare for SEF appointments. The first thing I need is the NIF number. It seems that it is possible to get NIF from your home country online

The announcement below states that non-European residents are exempt from the requirement to have a tax representative.

https://www.portugal.gov.pt/pt/gc23/comunicacao/comunicado?i=emigrantes-fora-da-ue-poderao-trocar-representante-fiscal-por-notificacoes-eletronicas

Therefore, I had some questions while filling out the information in the sign-up section at the address below.

https://www.acesso.gov.pt/unauthed/novoUtilizadorForm?partID=PFAP&path=/geral/dashboard

The registration fields are as shown below;

My main questions will be;

  • Will the VAT number field and the address field consist of my country of residence outside of Europe?

  • Will my password be sent to the address of the tax office I specified?

  • How long does it take for the password to arrive at the tax office in my country?

Thanks for your help

Hi kocali,

Your first link concerns portuguese emigrants abroad, not expats in Portugal. Although, it is also valid for them.

The second link, only works for portuguese people living in Portugal. This is not your case...

To obtain your NIF:

- if you are in Portugal, you should go to a AT Tax office (repartição de finanças), alone or with a solicitor. To request the NIF is a free service, if you do not use a solicitor.

Solicitors, Lawyers & Administrative division of Portugal:

- if you are outside Portugal, you should contact a solicitor or lawyer in Portugal, or request one of those online services that get the NIF for you by paying for the service, such as nifonline or e-residence:

Here the process is explained:

@kocali I recently received my D7 Visa for Portugal. It took a total of 6 months from the time I started to fill papers out to the time I actually was given my Visa in Portugal. I needed a NIF number for the SEF interview because the NIF number is printed on your visa. My lawyer informed me without the NIF I would not be able to get a visa. (I am a non EU citizen). Do yourself a favour and hire a lawyer and get the process completed correctly

These online services that I mentioned here, involve a lawyer in Portugal, through a videoconference call
