Hi experts.

We are a UK couple (No claim to EU status for either of us sadly) looking to relocate to Portugal with the idea of purchasing a property with some land with a view to developing a holiday rental or two. We wont be spending enough to meet the Golden Visa but will have about £300k in total to bring with us. We probably aim to spend 150 -200 and take cash to live on and to pay for renovations etc while we get it ready. We will be giving up jobs to move so will not have regular incomes. We cant work out if this will be a problem for the visas. I cant see that we would meet the criteria for any of the work/retirement/entrpreneur/golden visas. Does this count as self employed? We plan to come and rent for 6 months while we property hunt, but this might also be a problem?

Q1) Would we be eligible to get residency visa based on this situation? If so, which one/how?

Q2) Am i right that you need to buy short term temporary health insurance to cover the first few months until you get residency? And then register with the national healthcare service?

Q3) I have read that you should apply for the residency visa as your 90 day visiting allowance ends in some places, rather than apply on arrival or before.

Really appreciate your help :)

Hi Cachorro Pequeno. Welcome.

I would suggest you to read these threads, if you keep the doubts, you can post them here:

ARTICLE 90-A – RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR INVESTMENT PURPOSES ( = Golden Visa)

If you opt for real estate investment, you can get a golden visa for 350,000 as long as that complies with some conditions *:

- The purchase of real estate property with a value equal to or above 500 thousand Euros;

- * The purchase of real estate property, with construction dating back more than 30 years or located in urban regeneration areas, for refurbishing, for a total value equal to or above 350 thousand Euros;

D7 visa - UK (post #3)

Q1. The choice of visa depends on your work and your income. Do you have income other than income from work ? Could you opt for teleworking ? Do you only have passive income (savings) in case you become unemployed? Any income from rentals?

Q2. and Q3. The answers are in the first link above.

Best Regards
