Hello All!

I am very close getting an offer to work in Kuwait. I'm really excited but at the same time perplexed.

The offer is 1.470 KWD/mth composed of 70% basic salary, 20% housing allowance and 10% for tranportation.

Do you guy consider it a good offer? And about the housing allowance, these 20% of hosuing will be reimbursed? Is my understanding correct?

Thank you guys in advance for help!

:)

Bonjourno!

let me break it down for you; in Kuwait your end of service i.e. indemnity is paid based on your basic salary, so the reason they are breaking it down with allowances is to reduce the indemnity payment (if you complete 3 years you get half of it if you resign, full if they fire you, or full if you complete 5 years).. anyhoo, I digress.

So the way it works is, they will pay you monthly 1,470, which is not bad at all, and you will find an apartment and rent it, regardless of the rent. So, 20% of 1470 is 147X2, 294. Depending on the area you look at, you may not find apartments for that range, also depends on what you are looking for, 2 bedroom, one bedroom etc. most 2 bedrooms start at 350.

If you have any other questions, feel free to list em here :)

Grazie mille!

So basically it is just about a breakdown of the salary detail and these 20% of housing allowance by no means will be returned to you? For me is quite important to understand this as I would not be moving alone to Kuwait but with my wife

Thank you so much! 1f603.svg1f603.svg1f603.svg

@OGVG most welcome amigo!

Yes, when they say that, they are just breaking your salary into 3 parts, to reduce their indemnity payment to you when you resign. You will see this because when you join your job, they will have two work contracts for you, one from the company on official letterhead etc., signed by you and HR/ owner, and one that they present to the ministry, the ministry one will have your salary as 1470 - 30%.

They're basically saying here is some money, go live with it. so regardless of their breakdown, your take away is the same, you will be responsible to pay your rent, not them.
