Leasing land, disability dir dep & health ins

Post new topic

Hi I’m going to be moving to Palawan and my fiancé and I will be marrying and buying her grandmothers house in Palawan God willing. I have several questions I hope you don’t mind:

1- since I can’t own the land is the lease just between grandma and me or us there more to it than that ?

2- I get disability benefits. Do you think I should have them deposited into an American bank or does it matter?

3- lastly does anyone know if I can still be insured using Medicare plus I have a supplemental plan. Do you think I just need to get separate insurance for my bride to be using a local company or can I get her on my plans? I’ll also do more research myself but if anyone know this information off the top of their heads I’d appreciate the advice and help. Thanks Michael

2- Yes, keep your money in the states, transfer to the Philippines as needed.

3- Your Medicare Plus & your supplemental plan are not valid for use in the Philippines.

Thanks very much! So don’t even deposit in an American bank in the Philippines like Citibank? Thanks I appreciate it.

Citibank, I thought the same thing. I've bank with Citibank in the states for years, they even printed checks with my Philippine address on them before I came here.

I went to Citibank in the Philippines and they said they could not link the accounts. The only positive thing about Citibank Philippines is that you can withdraw P15,000 at their atm compared to P10,000 at other banks. At Citibank or other banks you can do multiple withdraws at the same time.

Since you are new, there are many apps for low cost transferring funds to the Philippines. I'll save you some trouble, many banks will do a free transfer, bad choice (no such thing as a free lunch)  they make their money on a lower exchange rate and the transfer in some cases is not timely.

I use "WISE" for my transfers, good exchange rate, low fees and transfer within minutes. "WISE" is not the only good way of making transfers, there are others. Some use Charles Schwab, they refund fees.

I had Citibank. They told me that the Philippines Citibank does not comply with the same financial assurances as the US. The Philippines have its own financial government and policies.  So I transfer my funds to Charles Swabb. No ATM charges anywhere in the world.  I keep my money in the US and transfer it to Wise as needed. I use Wise for online purchases or transfers to my Filipino bank and withdraw cash using my Charles Swabb card. ATM fees are reimbursed at the end of the month. I pay with Pesos at stores and buy online from Lazada PH using my Wise card.   I also use Wise to transfer to my Filipino Bank. This way, I can pay for my utilities via paymaya without using American checking or credit cards.

Food for thought.

You can own land if you set up a corparation which you can be 40% owner of the corparation .

Which can buy the land or house

Why not simply lease it with a 25 + 25? Cut out all the middle men, ridiculous legal fees both to set up and then to administer, arguments and a lot cheaper and no hassles.

OMO.

Cheers, Steve.
