Has anybody watched any of this guys videos? One year ago he put out a video titled "Don't Get Married in The Philippines and said he was against marrying. About two months after the video he put another one out and in it he said he had split up with his girlfriend. About two months ago he put out another video with his girlfriend (the same one) so they obviously got back together again. He said he had been back to the States for a year working and while he was away admitted that he and his girlfriend had problems and said ended the relationship a couple of times but kept chatting and got back together again and he then said they were getting married.

Even though the guys videos are informative and offer good advice, he seems unable to follow his own advise and seems to do the exact opposite and this guy is is the Philippines. Not sure I will be taking any of his advice even though he comes across as a decent bloke.

Not in defense of Paul, but

A person is allowed to change his mind, us older Expats opinions and feelings are not like a train on a straight and long track never to come off, but like a dirt bike free to wonder.

Things said or done often was because it seemed a good idea at the time. Some of my biggest mistakes did seem like it was Good Idea at the Time.

I look at my past mistakes that seemed a good idea at the time, but I learned a bigger one is always coming.

The reason Paul got married he cares about his partner and with his advancing age, with fewer grains of sand in the hourglass, he wanted to protect her future when the sand runs out. He was planning for the future.

That's a big problem with such age disparity with Expats and their partners. (Leaving a young widow with his children when his time comes.)

Cherryann01

I agree that people do change there mind but if you saw his videos and listened to what he said it seems a dumb move by him. In the first of the videos, he could not think of one benefit for the Ex Pat to get married but managed to reel off several disadvantages. He even mentioned an incident he had heard about through a friend of a friend I think, where the Ex Pat was happily married and had been for some time but was awakened from sleep one night to find two men in their house. There was a struggle, the Ex Pat got shot in the face and was lucky to survive. Later he found out that it was his wife's brother who had broken in and shot him. Paul made the point that if the family of your wife stand to gain anything by you being out of the way, they may resort to this sort of thing. The guys wife denied she knew anything about the break in and shooting and Paul did say that that could be true.

What I find hard to believe though is that he got or is getting married to a woman he broke up with three times before within a reasonably short period of time. How can one be sure she is the right woman when this has happened. Yet he still advises people not to rush things and to make sure they take their time in a relationship without committing to a serious relationship before they feel that the woman is right for them.

The only possible defence I can see for Paul is that he has gone from a situation of being in the Philippines with his girlfriend to moving back to the States for a year and they may have had problems adjusting to being apart and that may be what caused the friction and problems between the couple. All these bloggers talk about online relationships and the pit falls and also that it is best to meet your prospective partner in person but I have not seen much if anything in the way of advise for a guy who meets his partner in person while living in the Philippines and then for whatever reason has to go back home for an extended period of time. It is kind of the opposite to what all lot of people on this forum have done before or are currently doing. Online dating is one thing, you do it with the hope of finally meeting your girl in the Philippines and either coming back home for a few months before visiting again or some may decide to make the move ASAP after meeting. Living in the Philippines and having a girlfriend there for an extended period of time then leaving her for a year probably puts a big strain on the relationship.

I think Paul is fairly young compared to most out there and think I remember him saying in one of his videos that he would be 40 shortly.

Enzyte Bob - I think you may be confusing Paul (Old Dog New Tricks) with Paul (Paul's Asian Adventure).

Yup you are correct because I was thinking Paul Old Dog new tricks. He just recently married BabyMae.

As for Paul's Asian Adventures, I never heard of him or his Youtube channel.

@Cherryann01 90% of these video bloggers, youtube amateurs and travel guides are pure bs trying to make a few dollars. Low quality video,  unscripted monologs and might just lie for the clicks.

Avoid.

I personally have found the vlogs quite entertaining. Yes there is much repetition & duplication and some are more eloquent than others. A few are slightly more interesting than watching paint dry..

What is revealing is the sheer number of vlogs emanating from Dumaguete and its immediate environs. Its almost as though a cottage industry has been created and has become self fulfilling akin to a tech cluster. One vlog reinforces another with the 'competition' promoting each others service.

Tsismis? Best to get your hands dirty and taste the flavours, not rely on media.

Pass the Lotus, I'll take a bite.

A good portion of my day is watching Youtube. Dumaguete is the epicenter off Expat Blogs, also I think Dumaguete attracts so many Expats because of Expat community is so large and creates a comfort zone for new arrivals. It's the Ellis Island for Expats.

Sometimes I will follow blogs but when the following happens, I'm gone:

(1) It takes too long to get into the content.

(2) When they have poor audio.

(3) When they stretch it out to reach the 10 minute mark for compensation.

(4) When they are plain boring.

@Cherryann01 Have you considered his videos are verbalized so you and other watch them?  What he shows there could be just that a show for clicks.

Ho Hummmmm.............    zzzzzzz...        Wait!!  did you hear the Pea's new house for her parents caught fire (stepdad was cooking in the outdoor kitchen and started a big fire).  No blame, no harm, no foul says she; she will put it all back together.  For me she is head, shoulders and whole body above all the others.  I have unabashed respect for that Gal.   DM

@TitoDan

.........And kudos to Gio for giving her the big boost that started her success.....

While I'm at dishing out Kudos, The very best interview, for me,  was Old Dog Paul's dad, who was 20+ years his senior and looked half his son's age, and was a friendly, aware, caring person with a lot of great life experience to talk about; a believer in God and not ashamed to say it.  If I ever got a chance to interview Paul, I'd concentrate on his life and try to find out why he looks twice as old as his (90s, as I recall) father.  Having said all this, I have respect for ODNT Paul and congratulate him for pressing forward with his adventure..  His outbursts of loud, unending laughter in mid-conversation is a turnoff.  DM

@Enzyte Bob do you have any favorites?

I was watching some the other night, and most of them were terrible. I mean really amateurish like a guy with a cell phone, or video of driving around

As far as the Philippines You Tubers go I prefer "Every man has a story." He interviews the Expat, most of the time he is off camera. His channel is not about him but his guest.

I'm sorry about you folks who like Filipina Pea, her voice just drives me up a wall.

Cherryann01

I like Filipino Pea, her voice is quirky and she always delivers her message with a smile. I feel sorry for her regarding the house fire but she still managed to deliver a good video and was just glad nobody was hurt in the fire. I hope she has insurance and can get on her feet again real soon.

Now if we are talking about voices, Baby Mae's drives me up the wall and I simply cannot watch any of her videos. She also seems to sit in that upright position like a kid who was told not to slouch by her school teacher.

Meljean Solon has the best voice of the Filipinos and her videos are interesting although most recently seem to be about her travels to Japan, Singapore and Vietnam.

What if Baby Mae had Filipina Pea’s voice Cherryann? ;)

I still would not be interested.1f601.svg

Lol. Yes Filipina Pea's Vlogs are well produced, scripted and polished and without doubt informative. She does occasionally though hold herself hostage to fortune.

I saw one of her vlogs a few months back where she did 'ad hoc' interviews by approaching foreigners in public places. She interviewed a Polish guy in a Café ( I think outside Tom Tom's on the Terrace).

When the interview finished he tried to ask her out on a date - hilarious and definitely unscripted 1f602.svg
