Marriage Process in Morocco: What to Expect During Police Interviews

Post new topic

JosephE1!

What does the Moroccan police ask during the marriage process in Morocco when being individually interviewed by the police, for a foreigner (British Moroccan with no Moroccan passport or ID, just an English passport) and a Moroccan woman from Morocco?

what kind of questions do they ask ? and how long is the interview process for.

MrT786

@JosephE1 good question. waiting for someone to back with the answer 👍

zahidiqbal81

@JosephE1! They ask about your work history, education and also your family, if they are married, age and what do they do for work etc.  I had to fill out a Cv form with all this information. They ask if you are Muslim and also ask about your parents. I hope this helps. So maybe prepare and take this information with you to copy onto the form you fill out.

@zahidiqbal81 Thanks Zahid, what do you mean you had to fill out a CV form? What in morocco, the police gave you a form to fill out? how do you mean?

zahidiqbal81

@JosephE1! Yes  they give us both a form to fill out, as mentioned in previous reply.

Part of the process and then they inputted data into their system.

@JosephE1! Hi. It's more like a friendly chat then a full on interview. The questions may vary depending on which city you have the interview but in my case they asked about

- How you met your partner

- What you do for work exactly

- They went over how much I was paid

- Asked about me mother and father and what they did previously for work

- What my future plans were with my wife like if we will stay in Morocco or move to my home country.

It's really a casual chat. When this is finished they will prepare their report and submit it back to the court.

Shortly thereafter the court will approve the marriage and inform the adoul who will then write your marriage contract.

Don't stress to much about it. It's one of the most simple things of the whole process of marriage in morocco!

Good luck

MarriageInMorocco

@zahidiqbal81 that really varies between the police station and city. For me I wasn't given this. It was just a friendly chat. The police took notes throughout the whole interview though! The form you filled out was probably to save them the effort of writing the notes to gather all the information that want to know from my previous reply 👍

MarriageInMorocco

@JosephE1! The interview should take no longer then an hour. Usually probably much quicker then that. Though in Morocco they don't always respect appointment times perfectly. So for example they may tell you to come at 10am but not be ready for you until when it's the right time for them so you may be waiting for that 😂

zahidiqbal81

@MarriageInMorocco Yes, we were waiting around more than anything. They went through the application just to confirm a few details. Mine was at the Marrakech police station.

MarriageInMorocco

@zahidiqbal81 yes!! One thing that Morocco taught me throughout my years here and the process of marriage.. The meaning of "patience" 😂😂.

zahidiqbal81

@MarriageInMorocco 💯 waiting was the name of the game everywhere we went 😆

MarriageInMorocco

Heard a new one for the first time..

The police asked the man in front of his Moroccan partner and her father during the interview;

Have you 2 had premarital sex?

This was in Khemisset. A small town.

So be prepared for any kind of questions even if they are too personal and would seem very offensive in a normal reality to ever ask such questions!

I remember my interview and it was in me, my job, a little about my family and the future plans. And was more like a friendly chat.

What other questions have you been asked that made you think... Wtf are you asking this for?? 😂

Rondainmarrakesch

@MarriageInMorocco Thats not new, very common. My husband and me had this question asked by the judge already before our file was sent over to the Gendarmes for the next check up. And that’s 5 years a

MarriageInMorocco

@Rondainmarrakesch I meant a new one to me that I've never heard before. Not that it's never been asked before. It's not a common question based on my personal experience with my own marriage and the 100+ couples we've worked with. Only one couple was ever asked this question. It is entirely inappropriate to ask such a question in any context, especially considering that the virginity test has been removed from the law. For the person asking to even expect an honest answer is absurd. In any case, it's quite laughable and pathetic in my opinion.

@zahidiqbal81im going there to this month were they ok with yourself or did they try and imitate you how long was the interview

VictoriaBH

I was asked why I want to marry my husband, whether we were celibate or not (the answer of course is "yes we're celibate")  how we met. I guess just trying to ascertain if the relationship is genuine.

This was 5 years ago in Ouled Teima/ Huawara

@VictoriaBH thank you
