Wondering if there are structured retirement centers in the Philippines. Like a complex with different levels of care, everything from independent living to memory care and assisted living. Mostly for foreigners.

Thanks

Interesting link and TY fgarthon for that info, eye opening.

Better to pay my partner to look after me when I can't tie my shoe laces and not PHP 88K for basic per month in that establishment, I wonder my older years to not be a Burdon on those I love, My better half worked in aged care in Australia cert 4 for 5 years and many sad stories, I hope I'm not one and pass while no one is looking.

Ben tells me that P 88K is cheap compared to where he worked with a bond of AU 500K and 4 to 5 K per month, Told Ben not to leave me, lol.

Cheers, Steve.

I suppose we should all thank our lucky stars that we are still alive.

I recall the excellent 1976 sci-fi movie 'Logan's Run' One of those mid atlantic US/British co productions with one of my favourite American actors from the decade Richard Jordan. Essentially everyone was 'terminated' once they reached the age of 30. This was to 'maintain the equilibrium of the Earths resources'

Anyway I have insurance. My cryogenic chamber is on standby in my loft :)

talamban

@bigpearl 88K is for Basic Care of an elderly Filipino. Add 20% PLUS VAT for a Non-Filipino. Plus Meds. Still Cheap compared to Assisted Living in USA which would be in excess of $5,000 per month. Alternatively, you can give the facility All of your Medicare Monthly Check, except for about $36/month to take care of cost of Diapers. Real issue is the daily abuse of the elderly by the staff. I witnessed it with my parents before they died. Best solution is to have a loving Filipina by your side, as long as she can handle your needs.

bigpearl

A double like  talamban, not what you have but who loves you,\

That's good news. . . .you will go to sleep and one time and never wake up.

I think you have a different interpretation of rich. I was thinking like a 22 room house on 1,000 acres and a staff of dozens.

There is quite a difference between retirement centers and facilities that offer independent living, assisted living and memory care.

I didn't quite live in a retirement center while living in Las Vegas. I lived in a complex with 188 units and the complex was age restricted 55+ years.

Most of the people were retired but my wife & myself worked. The residents were active and the complex had an onsite manager who lived in the complex. A really nice heated swimming pool, hot tube/spa and BBQ. Indoors was party room, library, fully equipped exercise room, sauna and kitchen for parties. Plus computers and printers. The only structured things were parties for the holidays.

Now for independent living, assisted living or memory care, that's a whole different story. I had visited several on business. The independent facilities had restaurant quality dinning, menu's, table clothes and light housekeeping. Also they had van service for shopping and Doctors appointments.

There were smaller privately owned (eight patient restricted & licensed) with overworked under paid help. You would look at the day room and the patients looked like zombies and cheap poor quality food.

Then there was state owned facilities for welfare people, really terrible places for people who had no assets.

In order to get financial help you could not own real estate, the government would do a three year look back to make sure you weren't hiding assets. Some places you had to turn over house to guarantee payment and your social security, limiting you to a paltry $30 a month.

If you had the money, the best place was to live was in your home and have 24/7 care. My wife had Filipino friends who worked in private homes with 24/7 care. They were paid $100 for a 12 our shift. (independent contractors). Some places had two live in caregivers, each working different 24 hours on three day shifts. These caregivers were responsible for cooking, house cleaning, bathing, shopping, medicating and doctor appointments.

An ex wrestler Verne Gagne a former NWA Champion lived in a memory care facility, thinking he was in a wrestling match, body slammed his roommate and killed him.

My picture is of the Jerry Springer who passed away yesterday.

As we do Bob, birth, taxes and death.

As for rich? I said I was not poor.

@Enzyte Bob P100k/month is cheap as hell compared to the States.

Without knowing the details of the persons health, age, income and current housing it's hard to make a determination on the little info you provided.

Is this person you or a loved one and plans for the future?

Yes P100,000 is cheap compared to the states, but can the overseer or patient afford this? Home care for this person would be less expensive and better for the person.

I would think hiring of two people maybe one live in and the other one daily, or even a husband & wife team to provide the care with the appropriate skills would be a much better environment for the patient.

Farming out or warehousing the patient should be the last choice.
