Evening all

The wife and I (61/59) are on target for retiring to Madeira from the UK.  The plan is to rent for a year, sort of a big toe dip in the water, then buy somewhere if we like it.

We have sorted out a NIF + Bank account and will be visiting in a few months to find a rental property.

Figuring out when / how to apply for the D7 so gleaning information on here.  Seems fairly straightforward, can't quite get my head around renting a property then having to apply for a D7 in London, and in person but I'm sure it will all make sense eventually.

Travel Insurance/Health insurance also looks like an interesting area so welcome any tips on companies to use.

Also anyone else taking this path, happy to share notes and thoughts!
