hi everyone

first time filing tax returns and tackling the online form.

I see that if  income is under 19500  there is no need to file this year. Does that include interest?

it is also interesting that they require an exact date for every paiement but there is no option to add lines. Is there a way around this?

And for those who have both S1 and non dom, is it necessary at all?

Toon

The €19500 is to include all income including interest paid on savings and investments.

I would advise talking to a tax professional for the first time tax return

Toon

As for S1 I don't see that has any bearing on income tax ... Except if you hold an S1 you should have a tax exemption form from Cyprus dept of health and you are required to quote that reference to not be taxed

All newcomers here are non dom for the first 17 years . But you will still need to complete a tax return eventually... Even though not this year for 2022 return as under 19500 have an exemption this year .. best advice I can give you is speak to a professional for the first return..

NB if you arrive mid year there is no need to complete a return for that part year ....ie if you arrive say June of 2022 then your first tax return will be for the year 2023 and not 2022...

Also have you exercised your dual taxation treaty rights if you have them ...

And as for interest I guess it depends if the interest you have has already been subject to tax in original country..thats where DTT comes in handy to mitigate that taxation...

NB I've always completed them since 2014 as I knew eventually I'd have to do so .....but then ours are quite simple returns

Thanks Toon,

we came to Cyprus earlier than mid year. We have the documents  for the exemption from the health tax as well as the non dom

as for double taxation, we are not taxed on interest, but my husband is taxed on the pension.

Is there a tax person you would recommend? I am not comfortable picking someone randomly. We are in Limassol.

Appreciate your help

Toon

Doesn't matter a part year is not counted so a tax return is not required for 2022..  at least that was the way it was explained to me when we arrived here ... Of course it may have changed

Toon

Where are you currently taxed

Toon

I don't know of anyone in Limassol sadly...maybe another reader does and will respond

Toon

If you need clarification on matters I've always found an email to taxisnet@mof.gov.cy very prompt and reliable

We are taxed in Denmark for pension but we were living in Canada and we had to pay partial tax there too for part of 2022. I understand that what we paid will be deducted from taxes due in Cyprus up to the amount that Cyprus would have charged.

good to know about the email option to taxixnet. I had tried to call earlier but no one answered.  I will email them.

thanks again Toon!
