Hello fellow expats!

My name is Mo and we have just recently moved to Madeira two weeks ago!

Super exciting! But now follows the paperwork as they love paperwork in Portugal.

We are looking into becoming residents here in Portugal, coming from within the EU this process shouldn't be so difficult.

We are wondering if anyone had previous experience in registering as a citizen in Portugal/Madeira? Would be very nice to chat.

Hi Mo, Welcome.

You don't need many things.

- First you need to get a tax identification number (NIF) at one of the AT Finanças bureaux or at a citizen shop (loja do cidadão):

- you need to open a bank account to make your day-to-day life easier and to be able to use the ATM network without fees

- you need to find a place to live (buy or rent)

- after 3 months of residence, you must get a CRUE certificate
