Hi David. I am not sure what service you used to send money. Was this a international SWIFT transfer from your bank to hers or some app you used? Have you considered using Western Union instead? Or RIA or remitly or transfer wise? I am not sure if they are available but that amount seems like a lot. I send money regularly from the US here and have never paid that much percent. I use paypal in America with Xoom often. It is not the cheapest but it is the easiest for us.

I think you will need to share more info with us like how you did the transfer, what app or service you used, etc. I am not familiar with money transfers from Italy but I have done US dollar transfers for years from the US to here, Vietnam, Malaysia, etc.

Sounds like you used the bank to do th transfer.  They take a hefty cut.

if you use Western Union I think the charge is only about AU$20

if you have ’Wing money transfer in Italy it’s a lot cheaper.
