Manok (chicken)

Can anyone explain to me the Filipinos inability to cut chicken properly?  I have been all over the Philippines and they just don't or won't  cut the chicken into discernible parts.  Every time I go to a roasted chicken place like Baliwag or some other roadside manok place, and by the way this includes KFC and Jolibee, it's like mystery chicken. However, a lot of the road "fried" chicken places cut the chicken in appropriate pieces.  At the roasted chicken places they just take a cleaver and start chopping the chicken into pieces, and it Is riddled with bone fragments...wtf?  I now order the roasted chicken whole and cut it myself. but in places like KFC and Jolibee it's already cut. Sometimes, I can figure out what the piece of chicken is like a wing or a leg but most of the time I have no clue. You would think that KFC, being a US franchise would have standards. I just get frustrated sometimes with the lackadaisical way the Filipinos do things.  Sorry guy's just ranting!

I worry about any chicken that is not chopped up and served at home, mainly because of the many chicken splinters which can get trapped in between your teeth and break your teeth if you happen to have fillings and your not careful, especially in and around your front teeth. Whenever I bought a whole bbq'd chicken I just tell them, just chop it (one cut) through the middle of the breast and leave the rest to me.

@whackerdog123 I totally agree. It's beyond me how or why they cut it the way they do - there is a right way of doing it.

I too have been flummoxed as to what part of the bird is served, and there's hardly ever any actual meat on some portions.

Rant on! Who cares? No me or the millions of filipinos that love manok. If you dont like it dont order it or else by the whole chook and do your own thing.

We are accustomed to the fact that chicken as a product is divided into several unequal parts - legs, thighs, breasts, etc. each of them has its own price and presentation. Here you rarely see such a clear division of this product because it is much more profitable to chop it into pieces and sell the entire carcass at once under the guise of the most expensive chicken meat. just another local

I adore the Filipina spring chicken. Tender and juicy :)

Does Max's Restaurant chop the chicken the same? I thought Max's chickens are skinny and flavorful, but then again, they probably don't fatten them up to show bigger size. I like their half chicken meal there.

How do you cut chicken properly?

It depends where is the chicken.

Which side do Australians drive?

Can anyone say on the wrong side?

dude, did I say I didn't like it?  I love the chicken here.  I also order it whole now and take it apart myself.  That being said, KFC and Jollibee don't give the option so you have to guess what part of the chicken your eating unless its a drumstick or a wing,  At least Mang Inasal serves you discernible pieces.  One thing though, when they sell chicken at the supermarket, it's cut properly so why not at the roasted chicken places.  Just saying!
