Does automatic extension apply to Schengen "waiver" entry?

Post new topic

My wife and I are British Citizens currently Portugal as tourists on a standard Schengen visa waiver scheme. Our 90 days expire in January, but we've been told of the public law granting automatic extensions until 30 June. Does anyone know if this automatic extension applies to those here under a visa waiver, or just residents? Thank you!

That's true. According to the decree law, this applies to all visas and documents. They don't specify which ones. So it's assumed that all visas are covered, including the Schengen visa. But you can enquire it at a SEF office, just to make sure.

Article 16

8 - Documents and visas whose validity expires from the date of entry into force of this decree-law (24 november)  or within the 15 days immediately preceding it shall be accepted under the same terms until 30 June 2024.

9 - The documents referred to in the previous paragraph will continue to be accepted, under the same terms, after 30 June 2024, provided that the holder proves that they have already made an appointment for their renewal.

______

Decreto-Lei 109/2023, de 24 de novembro 2023

Artigo 16.

Thank you again Johnny!

Can we simply walk into an SEF office and make an inquiry?
