Arrived from Kentucky on August 18, 2023.  Rented a house near T Shine resort on Lapu-Lapu.  Permanent relocation.  Love the friendly natives....hate the awful infrastructure (I am 80 yo).  A U.S. background in health care administration and book publishing.  .  I have a lot of lessons to learn.  Seeking a group of expats that meet periodically

A friend of mine from the states just left Angeles Ciy last night. He had spent 2 months in Thailand and was going back for another month. He hated it there in Angeles. So I asked him (knowing full well) why he hated the Philippines so much compared to Thailand. His response: Shitty Infrastructure. I lol'd. I knew that would be it. And honestly I think that's probably the biggest reason someone hates Phils. The infrastructure is horrible. But it's improving!

Adapt, overcome.

Yeah....the sidewalks and roads suck....especially for the older (I'm 80) with restricted walking power.  Yeah, they seem to be working on some of it, but at my age the trike, bike, car, bus, truck, and traffic insanity is more than I want to tackle.  I have my own solution.  I do not drive nor do I own a car in the Philippines.  I have purchased a small EV that requires no license, no insurance, and no registration for short trips to the markets and a couple of malls.  I get grab or taxi for longer hauls.  The bigger challenge for us older dummies are the endless scams (females, hustlers, and, yes, other expats).  In spite of it all, I really love the adventure and I love  the Philippines.   Most of all, I love many great new friends and plan on leaving when my wits leave me.
