I have enough pension at 60 to hit the criteria for d visa but the missus does not.

I have been quoted £3200 for the whole process the get the d visa for both of us using the tro route, this includes all the criteria (including UK company formation). This takes about 9 months from starting the process in UK to receiving d visas.

Anyone have any ideas on the family reunification route? Eg costs, timeline, how hard work (beaurocracy) it will likely be?

The cost isn't a massive factor as will be able to plunder funds from the sale of our UK house.

@MasonD hi we had family unification done for our daughter but she was going to be our dependent she is 50 she has S1 medical from uk to join health fund i think any way this is not what you want but for children it will be the best advice would be get a notory that specialises in immigration in bulgaria we did it took about i month but as you have a buisness it will be longer sorry if this is not what you want  you need a notory and translator as no one in immigration will speak english this is because  uk out of  EU

I think the TRO option if one of the spouse is eligible for a pensioner visa is not necessary.

You think exactly correct. I always advice my clients to have first residence permit by one of the partners and next the family reunification. Butbif you don't have civil marriage you need to choose another option or to think about a marrige before starting the procedure.

Yes, we are married, have been for 30 years.

If I am successful with the pensioner visa (I will only have £700 pension a month) do I need to show extra monthly income for family reunification of my wife?

Shaun they don't ask for financial information  for your wife it's only you there interested in ..  once you have your residence she will only require proof of your residence in BG . Her birth certificate.... Marraige cert ...UK Passport....police ACRO check apostilled by ukgov... It's all a paperwork gathering exercise ..  you can do can do it yourself..   biggest hurdle is getting a translator to help you in BG when it comes to the residence permit ... See London Bg Embassy site consular section

Thanks for the informative responses. I'm still 4 years away from being able to apply but I like to do my research earlier 👍

I'm not sure if your TRO info is correct, what I've read says that your foreign company needs 2 years of history. If you're only 4 years from a pension, you're not gaining much from the TRO route, especially given that it is significantly more expensive.

My vote is definitely for D visa (and residence) for you, based on your pension. Followed by Family Reunification for your wife.

In the meantime, you can use your visa-free allowance (up to 90 in 180) for your Bulgarian visits.
