Wellsfry

@expander28

Won't matter what you wear... Either way you will stand out like a sore thumb... 😆

mugteck

Not a problem, if anyone mentions the shirts it gives me a chance to tell them about our family in Hawaii.

As you can see Expander, what we are saying is that any American (especially) style clothing and footwear (except for maybe leathers and Ugg boots) and you will fit in basically everywhere. No worries.

However, you should also be aware that the Philippines does have a thing about wearing clean clothes. Wearing freshly-washed clothes in public especially appears important. Even the poorest of families, and their children, will usually be wearing well-used but well-washed clothes.

Some Phils moms, without walls for their houses and a nearby stream for water, seem to be clothes-washing magicians. Sometimes their kids don't have foot-wear, but their clothes are spotless. Clean clothes appears to be a matter of acceptable social family pride and community standing. It's a tribute to Philippines culture.

And so will say, we expats would prefer you wear clean clothes also please matey?

Cheers :-)

Since it is hot in the Philippines, a beater might help one withstand the local climate.

I like my shirt better

Do they have female garbage collectors in the Phils1f923.svg

You're right about the clothes. Also roads in front of homes...   The road itself may be beaten up or just dirt, however, I see the local Filipinos sweeping any leaves or debris from the roads.  Homes in the Provence (i.e. Banaybanay) are the same... It may be a small shack, but the floors are clean...  Even dirt/sand is swept from in front or walkways.

I hope those are not wet leaves, I've seen Filipinos pissing on the side of the road many times.

Yes, and you're right Chughes about Filipinos sweeping out their houses and the front of their property. In fact, Filipinos seem to be famous as housekeepers the world over.

For example, since we are including an Englishman's example here, have a look at:  filipinohousekeepers.com/    where-in they say:  (Note: this is NOT an ad)

"FilipinoHousekeepers.com specialises in placing highly sought-after, hardworking and discreet Filipino Housekeepers"

We are based in York, North Yorkshire UK, and service the York area.

York UK Professional Housekeepers

Why employ a Filipino:

Good work ethic

Loyal & Honest

Discreet

Naturally Caring

Have the utmost respect for their employer

Excellent Housekeepers

Our Filipino Housekeeper duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Keep all rooms vacuumed, dusted, clean and tidy at all times

• Maintain the Families Laundry, Ironing and Dry Cleaning

• Care of fine china, Silver and crystal

• Change all Bed Linen, Towels etc

• Feed and Walk the dog daily

• Shop as requested or put away weekly groceries when delivered

• Cook Nutritional Family Meals

• Assist with preparation for dinner parties

• Flower arrangement

• Dealing with contractors

• Taking messages

• Running Daily Errands

Some households may require someone who can take on multiple roles withing the home, such as:

• Housekeeper/Nanny

In conjunction with keeping the house organised, the housekeeper can be available to step in and help with small children on nannies day off or when a full time Mum needs a break. Filipino housekeepers often work well in a household with older children to do the school run and provide an extra pair of hands at the end of the day.

• Housekeeper/Cook

We have many Filipino housekeepers who have high cooking standards who in addition to the usual housekeeping duties can provide nutritional, healthy family food, catering to all tastes including special diets as well as providing for functions and parties in the home.

Working Hours:

Live in: 10-12 hour days (with relevant breaks) – 5 and 5½ days a week.

Daily: 8-10 hours a day 5 days a week.

How did house workers come into a thread about Hawaiian shirts?

Since you raised the subject of your/others employees?  How much would you pay them in pounds per week/month? Or hypothetical?

Cheers, Steve.

Might have to change up the gait to fit in better with the locals. Don't want to spook them!

cjm_mgc

@expander28 One of the great things about the people here, is that they care less about brand names and styles of clothing than the people in US and UK. They do seem to love to wear slippers (my gf made my buy a pair as soon as I arrived here). So, do you and enjoy yourself!

Really?  I'd be surprised to see filipinos being MORE materialistic than Brits and Americans. I guess it depends on the area.
