Lease or bank account first?

Post new topic

Teatowel

So my understanding was that to open a bank account I need a lease to show I'm living somewhere but I just read in another post someone saying landlords require visa and a bank account?!?

I'm seriously getting more and more confused with so much conflicting info.  If I arrive on a 90 day visa am I going to have difficulties getting a lease?  I intend to extend to one year but I need a bank account first to put the 800k in.  If I can't get lease without bank account and can't get bank account without lease how does that work exactly?

As I replied in the other thread: No, you do not need a bank account in order to get a lease.

@Teatowelu YOU DO NOT need anything to rent your own place, just pay the rent. Bank account????  I  got mine but was wirking at the time, (work visa), but some banks will issue an account with passport only. Stop listening to threads (mine included), just get over here and work it out for you. EVERYTHING is possible in Thailand, so just go for it and make it happen. And it will. Trust yourself.

You can certainly try to get a bank account without an address but I wouldn't count on it - because it won't work.

You do need an address (not a hotel) to open a bank account.

If I have an HSBC ACCOUNT in Hong Kong (I live in Hong Kong) but thinking about renting a villa or flat and spending 90 days (I also have an APEC) card and British Passport) is it possible to use HSBC in Thailand and have a Thai Baht account where I can use Thai Baht daily? Or do you need to open a Thai Bank account ie a Thai Bank?

Normally the most used criteria by the banks are addresses. You can be lucky but I would not bet on it.

If you have no intention on  living here,  as I do not read that in your post, why open a bank account??

Use your local CC and you are good to go, excepted anywhere

The APEC card also gives you certain benefits, quick entry and departure, visa less stay for  1-2- 3 months, not sure, and there might be others, check out the www
