Hi guys.

I wanted to ask another question if that’s ok.

My 180 day period will be finishing on the 9th of April. I still have 24 days left of allowed stay from that 180 day period. I wanted to know if I was to time my stay in bulgaria so that my 24 days overlaps on 9th April, would I get another 90 days of stay? Or am I required to leave the country for some time, like a cool off period due to using up my full 90 days. I am a student who is waiting on type d visa approval. Thank you for your help.

Hello...

it is extremely complex and at the same time an easy mathematical solution.

The 180 are actually 'rolling' and not fixed.

At the point you wish to enter the country, you need to count backwards 180 days... you then need to calculate how many of the 90 day allowance you have previously used, within the 180 days (going backwards) up to the new proposed entry date.

There are also online calculators to help you if you can't work it out...

I'm a little confused here. Did you have an extended visa to stay for180 days, because without that you're only allowed 90 days. If you did have a 180 day visa, you must leave the country and stay away for 90 days.

Without a visa you are only allowed to stay for 90 days, but after that you have to leave for 90 days. That is the 180 day period. After 90 days away, you can return for another 90....and so on...

Just look at this https://ec.europa.eu/assets/home/visa-calculator/calculator.htm?lang=en

What @tutisservis said! The 180 days isn't a set period, but the preceding 90 days. If you've been in Bulgaria 90 days in a row, you would have to wait another 90 before returning. If you had shorter stays totalling 90 days spread throughout the 180 days before April 9, you still have to leave, but could probably return sooner. That's where the calculator @SimCityAT linked to helps.

Please be very careful about this. I believe overstaying, even by a day can get you permanently barred from the country.
