Crafting in Vietnam

Post new topic

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

Discovering and participating in the artisan culture  in Vietnam  is an opportunity not only to enrich your personal knowledge, but also to forge authentic connections with the locals. More than just a hobby, it is a gateway to integration and a deep understanding of the traditions that shape the cultural identity of Vietnam, making your own experience more meaningful.

What opportunities are available for residents to participate in workshops or training in Vietnam? Are there any places or occasions to learn or practice local crafts?

What craft practice have you had the opportunity to try or would you like to try? What were your impressions?

How has discovering and participating in the local artisan traditions enriched your experience as an expat?

What challenges have you faced in trying to get involved in the artisanal culture of your host country? How have local artisans welcomed your interest in their traditional crafts?

What advice would you give to expats who want to explore craft culture in Vietnam ?

If you have any other relevant information on the local artisan culture, please feel free to share it.

Thank you for your contribution.

I don't understand why this doesn't have any replies. 20 years ago I was set to go to Bali to learn how to carve masks. My plans fell through on that trip but I have wondered if Vietnam offers something similar. There's a couple Vietnamese pot makers that I follow on YouTube.

@Mahja Hi Mahja. It's so impressive for me to know your interest in Vietnamese art. As a Vietnamese, I am pleased to know that. Are you interested in the Vietnamese art of nail and eyelash?

Hi nhat,

I'm not so interested in nail salons and cosmetology.  I'm more interested in ceramic art, soap making, weaving, woodblock printing, bow making (bowyers) etc. I like heritage crafts.

For the past 5 years now I've been trying to make a shave horse, except that I keep procrastinating and it never gets finished.

I don't know if these links will work here but the following websites share some of my interests.
