Registering car in Bulgarian plates as a American citizen?

First thanks in advance to everybody for taking the time to answer this!

I'm an American citizen. I looked it up and I can register a car in Bulgarian plates through an established company. There are companies that offer this service.

I would be moving eventually to Macedonia, but I would like to use Bulgaria as the company's country since its in the European union and I can drive the car around Europe with less hustle with Bulgarian plates. Also because price to transfer car to Macedonia plates for expensive cars cost a lot and since I'd be changing 2 cars every 3-4 years I will be saving on the long run.

If somebody knows what else I would need, beside have and maintain the Bulgarian company, to have 2 cars at all times in the companys name, in Bulgarian plates, to be able to drive it around Europe and reside in Macedonia? Like any authorized user of a company car or a rent agreement between me and the company, or ownership of company would be fine? Are there any restrictions, on how long the cars can be out of country?

Thank you!

There are plenty of lawyers around who can (a) incorporate a Bulgarian company for you (as the owner/director), and (b) help you get a vehicle imported and registered by this company. It would not be a good idea to buy and register any vehicles in a company that is not entirely under your ownership/control.

If you're moving to Macedonia, I'd suggest that you skip the aggravation of vehicles registered in another country. It's always easier to have vehicles registered in the country you live in.

I doubt Bulgaria cares how long a Bulgarian-registered vehicle is outside Bulgaria. However, many countries care how long non-locally registered vehicles are spending there. And especially if you're a legal resident. You'd have to check Macedonia's specific rules on this to see if it's an issue.

In terms of legalities, you need an annual inspection, annual property tax, insurance, and vignettes for the countries you drive in. Bulgaria has vignettes, I don't know about Macedonia. A Bulgarian car insurance can be renewed remotely. But the annual inspection requires you to return to Bulgaria, and this is certainly an aggravation. But if you're happy to make the trip every year, it's possible.

In addition, you should have some kind of letter of authorization from the company (the owner) regarding your use of the vehicle.

Understand thank you.

The trip will be the smalles issue since I live like 1 hour from the BG border.

The main reason is that transfering car to Macedonian plates is like 7-10k euros for the cars I'm into. Having 2 of those, every 3-4-5 years. In the long run is worth it for me.

Thank you for the response!
