Buying a car in Mauritius

Hello, everyone! I'm a 66yo British pensioner hoping to emigrate to Mauritius in August or September, and get my 10-year retirement residency permit soon thereafter. I'll be renting a place in Floreal for 12 months and plan to buy a used car, a small - medium saloon, ideally a Honda Civic but will consider other makes. I'd like to pay no more than MUR240,000, ideally rather less. Any advice would be appreciated in this area, specific issues:

  • better to check out available cars through websites (if so, which?) or can you recommend good used car sellers?
  • are there any state taxes to pay? At the Post Office?
  • recommended local insurers?
  • I have a British driving licence, will I need to get a Mauritian driving licence, and if so, how soon after buying the car?
  • Any need for a driving test after x months or years, or can I drive indefinitely without one? Is there an age at which a test is required?

Thanks!
