Hi everybody. I live in the Yambol area but would like to register my S1 in Burgas as we have a good doctor there. Is this possible?

Kath948381

No idea , I think that once you've got your S1 you can go where you want for treatment. But if you've got a good GP in Burgas could you message me their details as I'm in that area and looking to register with a GP thank you.

Oh and if you're going to register in Burgas you'll need to go to two different offices . The first is the yellow building diagonally opposite from the high rise hotel Bulgaria in the centre. This office opens at 9.30 am weekdays. Then you'll be directed at another office in the sea gardens across the road from the Lazor area which opens at 8.30am.

You register it with the BG Health Service office nearest to where you live - you'll get a certificate of registration from them (takes a few days).  You'll then need to buy a "health booklet" (available from most stationery shops).  Then go to register at your chosen GP; note that you can change GP once a year if you don't like the one you've chosen.

@JimJ all though partly correct, with the advent of computer prescriptions the prescrition booklet is being done away with

That's certainly the theory - and indeed the practice here in Sofia - but in the large village where my in-laws live (going to the polyclinic in the adjacent large town for doctor's appointments etc) nothing happens without the magic booklet.... 1f600.svg

I did this for my dad recently. I registered his S1 at the relevant office, and a couple of days later they gave me a Bulgarian certificate to confirm this.

They said with this certificate I could register him with a GP (yes, did this too, very easy), and go to any hospital for treatment.

Got a comprehensive blood panel done by Ramus Labs (home visit by one of their nurses) far better than the mini test done on the NHS in the UK. Cost 70 quid. His new GP did a home visit (45 minutes) at my request. He gave my dad a physical examination, reviewed his blood test results, and reviewed his meds. Brilliant service, and only 40 quid.

Certainly in our local small town pharmacy, everyone getting prescriptions has their booklet with them. I think computerised prescriptions may be quite slow rolling out to the villages and smaller towns.

@JimJI agree

here in radnevo they do a print out one page for three months, I prefer the book

Well I've got my Bulgarian Health thingy but no Doctor yet, there's a chemist in the village where I'm able to buy my prescription but because I've lost loads of weight I may not need the stuff anymore I'll have to find a doctor who I can sign on with in Burgas or Pomorie area but as a non driver I'm dependant on the few and far between village buses.
