early childhood teacher: securing a work permit to get a work visa

Bonjour!

My partner and I are looking into moving to France. I am certified by the American Montessori Soceity to teach infants and toddlers. I've reached out to a few French schools with job postings for relevant positions. I've heard back from one of them that they are not able to help me get papers to legally work in France.

I have a few questions:

1. How likely is it that I will find a school that wants to sponsor my work visa? Is it more likely to find a TEFL position that will sponsor me than an early childhood teaching job?

2. If a work visa isn't likely, we could live off of income from renting out our home in the U.S. as well as some savings. What kind of visa would we apply for this option? On the French visa website, it seems like a long-stay visitor visa would be the best fit, but they require you to promise that you won't look for work, which isn't what we want to do.

Thanks for any advice!
