Hi all,

I intend to move/retire to Cyprus and I don't wish to have a car so I was focusing on the Paphos area.

Whilst I've been to Cyprus for holidays a couple of times and I've looked at properties etc online, that it is obviously different from actually living in an area.  Does anyone have any advice on Peyia, Kissonerga, Chlorakas or Kato Paphos?

I would appreciate any comments.

Thanks in advance.

Paphos, Limassol, and Larnaca (or villages just outside these cities) are all good. If you're property hunting probably pays to cast a wider net. Good luck!

I live in peyia have done so for 10 years it has everything you need and close enough to coral bay to want to go with guests or family and far enough away when you don't....lol.. two different worlds both have their upsides and downsides.

Kissonerga a smaller smaller village and Chloraka you must be aware and  careful of certain areas due to refugees and asylum seeker concentrations     but otherwise not a bad village a sizeable one for sure... all depends what your needs are, wants are,  must haves a nice to haves are.... Compromises are usually made

Check the bus routes for any place you are interested in as the busses are very good cheap and frequent and do offer a decent alternative to get about. Also check local doctors are taking on GESY if you qualify as you do not want to travel a long way to see a doctor. A bank ATM near buy is also good as the yellow one charge

Bus services vary depending on location... Choice of location may also depend on your own mobility.

As Phil says check GESY clinics and also bank locations, also nearest  supermarkets or convenience kiosks.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your comments, they are much appreciated.

I wasn't aware of the issue with refugees in Chlorakas but I have looked at the internet since your comments.  Whilst it appears to have been sorted, it does give me some reservations about parts of that area and will give me something to look out for when I visit.

Thanks also for your additional comments following Phil's comments.

Phil,

Thanks for your comments, they are appreciated.

The areas that I was looking at were partly influenced by bus routes but I hadn't thought about doctors and ATM's, so I will look into that a bit more.

@19kevin.

Pm sent to you...

Chloraka village centre is lovely as are a number of areas You just need to be wary of those areas that have had issues..Most of the problems have been sorted but there are still problems.

Enjoy the exploring, don't ignore Tala as its nice too....

But as has been said check out bus routes and walking routes some areas are challenging with hills ..peyia is for sure but there are areas that are very reasonable by walking, bike or elec scooter.

One downside for peyia is the lack of a bank in the village centre except at coral bay...Bank of Cyprus...

Hellenic bank left the village a while ago..and we saw an influx of euronet atms the daylight robbery blue and yellow ones..   they used to be fine and free of charges in local currency with Revolut card users and I believe any local bank card.. however my re cent experience has proved to be subject to charges now .   So we plan ahead for cash and use a card most places. Not great for local businesses cafes bars restaurants etc who prefer cash ..  but it is what it is ...we do however always try to keep cash for tips and pay for our bill with a card...

Another downside is that peyias nickname is little Britain ...lots of Brits which may or may not suit.... It's not for everyone that's for sure not really mine but my missus loves the social side.of the village... Where she would probably struggle any where more rural and Cypriot..

If casting your net a bit wider ..may I suggest looking at polis and argaka areas with a belting coastline upto Pomos....
