Change mother's name in child's certificate / or adoption case.

I am Thai / American, now living in the USA. I have questions for my friend who is Laotian. My friend was born and raised in Laos. Years ago, she got pregnant to her boyfriend who was married. She gave birth to her son and gave him away to her boyfriend's wife. So the mother's name on the boy's birth certificate is not hers but is her boyfriend's wife's instead (She said is easy to do so in Laos). Now that she's moved to America and got American citizenship, she wants to take her (14 years old) son to the USA with her. Because of the law here, we've got stuck with many problems. I'm trying to find an alternate way. My questions are : Can I take a DNA test and legally change the mother's name on the birth certificate? Is it hard? How long does it take? Is it hard to adopt her son, and how long does it take? I'm open to any suggestions in this case.

Welcome to the forum.

You have a hard time ahead of you.

Taking the DNA test may be a step towards settling things, but you will still have to go through official channels to get the process underway.

As far as adoption goes which country are you looking to have it done in?
