Working visas for people with permanent resendancy

Permanent residents in Cyprus can work, but the ability to do so depends on the type of residency permit they hold. Employment-based permanent residency permits allow individuals to live and work in Cyprus indefinitely. However, permanent residency obtained through investment generally does not permit employment, though it allows business activities. Long-term residents under EU Directive 2003/109/EC are also granted rights similar to EU citizens, including the ability to work in Cyprus.

There are restrictions on the types of employment permanent residents in Cyprus can pursue, depending on their residency category:

Category E permits allow permanent employment but require that the job does not create unfair competition with local workers.

Category F residents cannot engage in any business, trade, or profession, as their residency relies on passive income from abroad.

Permanent residents cannot work in government positions or run for office.

Self-employment is permitted under specific categories (e.g., A, B, C, D) if qualifications and capital requirements are met.

Does its say on the resendancy card what category you are ?

It probably does as mine is clearly marked as being under article 50 TEU The Withdrawal Agreement. ( Brexit benefit not...)

Then you should have no restrictions to work as you are protected by WA.

Protected by Withdrawal Agreement. So basically still treated as before Brexit.

You find a job you like they take a copy of your Article 50 card and that's it.

Toon If PR is acquired by being in Cyprus on a temp residence visa for 5 years does that allow us to work do you think?

As the pink slip was granted under a category that does not allow working in Cyprus  ..I don't think so ..but I would be happy if am wrong.

I got my meu1 under the original self sufficiency category F back in 2014 then my meu3 in 2019 am guessing under the same terms so id be barred from working anyway I think..now ive got the 10 yr mukw3...

Category C seems to exist on paper only. The prevention of undue competition clause to locals seem to deter many lawyers from trying this category for clients.Many lawyers have suggested temporary residence permit by investing 200k euros , establishing and working as director of the company of foreign interests for 2500 euros per month minimum salary for foreign director  and hiring at least one local employee at minim wage. This is the closest route to self employed visa as in many EU countries.

Category C

Persons who intend to work as self-employed in a trade or profession in the Republic, provided that they have in their possession a relative license, they have fully and freely at their disposal capital of approximately €260,000 (CY£150,000) or such lesser sum, as the Immigration Control Committee may determine, and such an employment should not affect negatively the general economy of the Republic.
