Hi all,

is it difficult for expats to open a bank account in Libya ?

Which documents are required to open a bank account in Libya ?

How long does it take to open it ?

Is there any restriction for expats regarding the services (loans for instance)  ?

Which bank would you recommend ?

Thanks in advance for your participation,

Julien

Hi Julien,

Its not difficult to open an acct in liby; you need your a letter of employment from your company and your passport and residancy permit and thhats all. it doesnt take too long same day thing and recommned I SAHARA Bank.
I dont know about loans though but I know it was hard even for libyans but its much easier for a company. Hope that helped a little.

To open a bank account you need the following 3:
1) Letter from your employer clearing stating your employment with the company/organization, and a request to the bank for you as the employee to open a bank account.
2) A copy of your Libyan visa on your passport.
3) A fee of 10LYD.

For loans you would definitely have to wait because of the current situation, some banks are still allowing a withdrawal of 1000LYD max.

Also, as a foreigner you cannot get a debit card, so access to your account is by cheque only. (In Arabic)
All UK Credit and Debit cards work in the ATM's
