I see Mauritius have pulled out of World Cup qualifying for 2014. No reason given. Anyone?

Scuttlebutt: According to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Mauritius Football Association (MFA) cannot afford  (moolahwise)   to enter the World Cup qualifying rounds.

Thats a shame... I see football being played by kids everywhere I go in Mauritius but I have never heard anything about it. I've never seen anyone playing cricket here but that seems to be the only sport that gets any coverage.

Not against cricket by any means. We are the 'best in the world' at the moment after all... :)

Ahah,  there is a difference between making money (coverage) and spending money for participation in world events :roll eyes:

And then we complain about the health of the citizens !!!!!!!! and the cost of medical care (or lack thereof)

As an ex-football player and a stadium addict, I can tell you that football is in coma and right now in a near death experience. Decision makers have killed the sports. Used to be days when football as regular weekend fiesta.  Policy makers and police did nothing to cater for the increasing passion ... Politics let the thing rot, and then the inevitable happen: some evil-minded people got hold of the thing and it went boom one day... People got killed, and it had nothing to do with the sports! Yet they blamed the king of sports and the best thing they could do was to ban it for almost a year.  Our national team played 'home' in Reunion Island...could you believe this? Thank God that these decision makers are not ruling in UK or France....  Else I would not be able to even Watch my fav sport on TV!!!
