My husband has been offered a position in Singapore. While we are all very excited about the move, I am worried about where my 17year old daughter will slot in with school.

She is currently completing Grade 11 in South Africa.  The best equivalent for our Matric I can find in Singapore seems to be the Pre-uni 1 of 2.

Can anyone give me further information regarding this? Has anyone experienced a move with a child of this age/school grade? Would really appreciate more info that will help us making a decision regarding which school to select and what to expect once we do.

We are also wanting to mainstream our younger son who is 11. I believe the government schools are very good. What I'd like to know is, can they be enrolled at any time of the year or do they have to first complete the assessment exams and then wait for the next semester to start?

Thanking you all in advance.

Hi Juanie

You could refer to The Ministry of Education's International Student Admissions page

Hi Juanie,

You should probably visit the various public schools on a look\see visit to get a feel for which ones are decent. From what I've seen, you'd probably also want to have a few international schools picked out as back up. Schools tend to be quite full here and expat kids are not allowed into the public schools when there are local kids on wait lists.

Thank you all. Looks like we need to do a trip to Singapore before the actual move there to set up the schools.
