Hi everybody,

I'll start a new work in Brussels very soon. I went to the town hall to registrate my residence in Brussels. So my question is if I'll lose my italian residence (I need this last for a mortage) or not?

Thank you.

Ask the Italian authorities, no-one here is qualified to give you and answer sorry.

Many italians keep both residences but you need to know what you are doing. In principle, you can be resident in one place only as you should declare your taxes there. In practice, many people never change their address in their Italian ID. If you go to the consulate, they will tell you the rules by the book. The reality is more complex, residence have an impact on many things: inheritance taxes, banking (certain services are only for residents), etc.

Thanks, I'll do as you said

If you ask the Italian consulate they should be able to help.  I am Canadian Italian...I don't expect becoming a resident should change that.  However, citizenship might be different.
