Hi
I have secured a job and accommodation in Malta and will be moving to Malta early November. One Question I have is how do I deal with my UK driving license as it has your address printed on it, don't want to exchange it for a Malta license if possible. Any advice would be appreciated

not sure of the legalities - but am sure George will - in my experience of 4 yrs here i have never ever had to show my uk licence - even for getting motor insurance - i have been stopped and only ever asked for my id card.....never ever my licence.

you can use your UK licence in Malta until it expires.

" Any holder of a European Union driving licence, a Swiss or an Australian driving licence issued by a Swiss or an Australian State and Territory licensing authorities, who takes up normal residence in Malta, shall be entitled to have his driving licence exchanged for an equivalent Maltese licence.

European Union driving licences shall be recognised in Malta as long as they are valid in country of issuance.

National provisions regarding the restriction, suspension, withdrawal or cancellation of a driving licence shall apply to holders of an EU Member State or Australian State and Territory driving licence who have their normal residence in Malta."

Thanks very much , another point clarified. Roll on November when I finally get to Malta permanently

Can you use a UK driving license for a driving job in Malta?

Did this regulation change?

I remember when I moved to Switzerland in 2003 I did not exchange my german driving license. After 2 years I got stopped at the border and the police was asking for my documents and license.

I showed them everything and said that I live in Switzerland. They told me, that pratically I was driving without a license, as the license needs to be exchanged for a Swiss drivers license.

The next day I changed it.

Also if you are drinving without a valid license your insurance might get void.

Now I have my residence in Malta and I still drive with my swiss drivers license (which has no expiry date on it).

Anybody knows if I need to change it or if the whole thing has changed?
