Silicone bathtub sealant

Post new topic

jeff-vn

Hi again,

Another extremely newbie question, but where can I get some silicone sealant/caulking for a bathtub? I've looked at Lottemart, Index Living Mall, Metro, Giant, Co-op, and a host of smaller "household" stores with no luck. We also need a different shower nozzle/sprayer, and haven't seen anything like this anywhere.

Thanks!

Not quite sure where you're located but there are plenty of shops along Bach Dang that carry both sealant and shower accessories.

Fittings, as in taps, etc., are tricky as few (any) are manufactured in VN and the standards vary - plus the shops selling them are "specialised" inasmuch as they have taps for sinks, but not basins, etc.

Try locating a 'sieve' plug (lots of holes' of the type used in kitchens.

Yesrin Street, where it runs parallel to Cho Dan Sinh (market) have shops  that sell a mix of plumbing 'fittings' as in after the pipe sticks out of the wall.

Nguyen Thi Thap, Q7 has rows of plumbing stores.

As for silicone sealant, it is available, Yersin too, BUT much of it is stale dated.

It also helps to take a picture, or the defective item, along with you as 'technical' Vietnamese can be tricky.

I am surprised you didn't see silicon at Giants, it was way down at the back on the L/H side in small tubes rather than caulking gun sizes.

I will check there for you later this week.

Quan 10 has lots of stores but you have to know the area.

TOTO (Japan) has a big segment of the market here;

TOTO VIETNAM Co., Ltd.
R. 1301, Centre Tower,
72-74 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai
District 3, Ho Chi Minh City
Tel: (84-8) 3822-9520

Having just equipped a mini-hotel, it is amazing to see how far the Japanese go to enable people to pretend we don't have natural body functions. I ended up using good old American Standard vitrious fittings.

As the British say, not even the Queen can have a lady-in-waiting 'go' for her.

Sorry to hear that.

Go to Nguyen Van Linh, hang a right, pass the Crescent Mall intersection, and proceed to the next intersection on NVL.

Take great care on this intersection as trucks can kill you.

Turn LEFT - this Nguyen Thi Thap - Lotte Mall is at the far end.

There are plumbing stores on both sides after you have passed the first traffic light (next to the gas station - which waters it's gas).

Drive down until the next light, then turn around. This is the plumbing strip.

Jaitch will be the judge of that. ;)

As he said, there are lots of plumbing shops on Nguyen Thi Thap street. You'll have to check several to find what you're looking for.

Frankly, I don't know how anyone gets anything repaired around here - I needed a flapper for my toilet a few years ago. Took the bad one off and stopped in every shop on Nguyen Thi Thap. None of them had exactly the same flapper, so I just went back home and did a makeshift repair that's still holding up now.

If you don't find it in Q7, as Jaitch said, can definitely find in the area around Yersin Street in Q1.
