Weekend school for my children in Copenhagen

Post new topic

Klausen

Hi my names is Stephanie and I need some help,

I'm from New Zealand, and have been living here in Copenhagen for the past 10 years. Married and have 2 chldren, 6 and 3 years old, and one on the way. My problem is that I need to find an weekend  school for my children, so that they can hear and speak more english. I know this sounds weird, but my oldest daughter refuses to speak to me in English. I have always spoken english to them, although I am fluent in danish. My husband and I speak danish to each other too. We have tried to have english always at the table where we eat, but even now, this has become a big deal, she is too tired after school, and makes a big scene when I push her to speak it. It really was not a problem a few years ago, we went to New Zealand for a couple of months, when I had maternity leave, and she came back speaking fluently. The children understand everything I say to them.
I could just let it be, like so many of my danish family and friends think I should. "Its fine, she is getting it in" etc... But the problem is, that now, she wont even talk to my mother or family on the phone in english. THIS is a problem, I think. She has started this year in a great folkeskole, 2 minutes from our apartment, so it's not an option to drive across town to an english speaking school, and besides this, there are waiting lists longer than a monkeys arm.

Sooo, does anyone know of schools that have a Saturday or Sunday with a few hours together with other children of expats, where she must speak English.

Any help would be appreciated,

Cheers, Steph
