Questions about kindergartens in Denmark (Kolding area)

Hello everyone!

Second post from me with some questions as our reloacation is coming closer and closer (my husband moved to Denmark in the end of January and I'll follow with our daughter about a month/month and a half later).

Our daughter will be 3 when we get there so we'll apply for placement in a kindergarten. We'll apply for a public Danish kindergarten and not a private/international one.

I haven't yet found an answer regarding the cost. Not something too specific, but what would be a normal range to expect per month?

Are the hours fixed or can we opt for fewer/more hours of attendance?

Are meals included?

How long does it usually take to give her a spot to a kindergarten? A month? Three months? Less/more? We'll be living in Kolding.

Do they allow us to settle them gradually when they start or do we need to leave them for as many hours as we apply for from the first day? I'd like to do the process gradually as with the move to another country, new home, new language, etc it will be a hard period of many changes. I won't be working for the first few months but I'd like to start within 5-6 months and if that work is fulltime we'll probably need for our daughter to be in school from 9-17:00/18:00 depending on my working hours and location of work/kindergarten.

Thanks in advance for any insight 🫶

Hi Maria,

If you haven't already got the answers, I can tell you that Kolding municipality charges  2,302 kroner  for the kindergarten + lunch 747 kroner if lunch is provided at the chosen/given institution.

These institutions offer a lunch scheme: https://www.kolding.dk/borger/familier- … itutioner/

You'll pay this above amount every month with the exception of July, which is free.

You'll pay for a full time daycare, even if your child won't stay there for the whole day. No one expects your child to be left on her own before she is ready. It's up to you and the institution to agree further.

Normally, you'll have to enlist your child digitally yourself, however, as a foreigner, I would recommend you to contact Pladsanvisningen (the office assigning day-care) for advice on how to do.

Email: pladsanvisningen@kolding.

Happy New Year,
