Hi ,
i'm looking for set up some restaurants in Bui- Vien Street District 1 or nearby area , does anyone knows where to search for some info ? any newspaper or other media ?

Thank's in advance

Jaitch

A Foreigner wanting to rent a business premises usually means the landlord wants a lease and your documents (think business registration).

But acquiring a VN partner / girlfriend / wife makes things much less formal.

Be prepared to fill up that 'Incidentals' column in your accounts as the Cong An will be around for their 'tithes'. Put a sign up, in Vietnamese, saying: "No bribes paid unless authorised by Senior Officer, in writing".

The TP HCM food inspectors will be regular visitors, too.

Don't give free food away, otherwise you will be known as a soft-touch. DO leave a jug of iced water by the door with a plastic cup.

Finally, a big chunk of Pham Ngu Lau is scheduled for demolition (hooray) - particularly at the end nearest Nguyen Trai and beyond Bui Vien. So don't go spending big bucks on improvements.

FREE FOOD is a NO NO unless you are a "government officials' charity". However, a special side dish can be a nice friendly gesture to "gain you favour" to the right official.

So what should the authorization say :o. "I, Senior Officer X, herewith authorize Junior Officer, Y to accept bribes in all forms and shapes"?? :/.

No, it is the other way round!
"I, Junior Officer, Nguyen... am authorised to accept ALL contributions for distributions on behalf of my superior".
Superior's good name "shoot" not be tarnished

So if the bribe is in a particular, ehh, shape, how can the junior officer distribute it? Take one for the team? Record it and distribute? Tough choice!!

Anatta

Talking about opening a restaurant! Here is an article from yesterday about a German starting small.

Link in Vietnamese.

http://biz.cafef.vn/kinh-doanh-nho/ong- … 2ca103.chn

It talks about Klaus Rutt, a German, who has started selling German sausages on the street. He sells 200-300 sausages/day and will open a German restaurant soon.
You find him on Phan Xích Long street, Phu Nhuan,  btw 15h-21h, so you can go there and ask for experience :D.

Jaitch

Both my wife's mini-hotels have thsoe No Bribe signs at the Front Deesk, mounted on the wall, and no Cong An has asked yet!

I also know of other Foreign(er)-owned who don't pay bribes and the Cong An, although not happy, don't harass them.

Junior officer Nguyen "eat" quickly.
Too difficult to record so NO NEED to record. SOP
Cảm ơn and disappear.
I am sure BKK follow the same ISO policies. I know most of SEA do, except Singapore, where person offering the bribe gets persecuted and the officer reporting the bribe, gets a commendation and rewarded with amount equavilant the bribe!

Hi All,
Thank's for your reply it's sounds kind of normal to bribe , why i'should pay bribe or "tithe" if making all the procedures by law , i'know there is some "illegal places " vendor who make their business in illegal places such as bia hui - all the clients seating on the pavement but sometimes when there is no space they move to road- and when the police come they get back to line ....

hELLnoi

I agree, it is too easy to bribe your way.
When you have been through the various authorities, and open your doors for business, do as the Half Shaven Lamb, Jaitch: Put a sign up, in Vietnamese, saying: "No bribes paid unless required by Senior Officer in writing".
(you may have to say "authorised" as originally text by Jaitch because of the direct Vietnamese English translation!)

Yes Anatta gave the link up there.
Street stalls are not monitored. There are many peddlers with the long bamboo over their shoulder selling sweets.
Quite often you see the stalls just pick up and walk away from the authorities.
Coming back to Klaus Rutt, he may just start a street stall franchise for German sausages rather than open a restaurant after he gets footballed around to obtain the necessary approvals.

Anyway, I may go there sometime this weekend to get myself a bratwurst :), taking exception to living as a vegetarian for one day. Hope that it is a real stuff, not the awful rubbish one normally gets when eating Chinese food or pizzas in the US, or Mexican food in Asia!!!.

l3ully

I think, it will be good quality. Germans are picky on Bratwurst

There's a genuine German bar at the mall at Nguyen Du and Ha Ba Trung and they sell various German meat products.

Many years ago I attended a meat processing pant to service some electronics. Never aten anything minced since then. Yuk.

And people like Blood Sausage?

Dang!! Finally, I found some good reasons to break my self-imposed vegetarian eating rules, and, this totally spoils the mood :o. !

What? A German guy BBQ saussages by the street is a good reason to break your fast?

Anatta

Well, What can I say? it has been a long time since I had a really good bratwurst!! Besides, I think you would offend a lot of Germans in this forum if you imply that a real bratwurst is just any sausage, pumpernickel with any bread,... ;)

hELLnoi

I apologise if i offended anyone. I had my experience with minced and I prefer it when I can identify which part of the animal my meat is coming from.

Whoa whoa whoa! What?! Is that info official? The Long Phi is located at the end of Bui Vien, it's an awesome restaurant/bar I'd hate to see go soon.

Do you have any way to confirm that part of PNL will be demolished?

Hi, are you still looking for a place in the backpack area for setting up a restaurant or you found it already?

By the way, I'm Tran Nguyen, my friend and I have opened a small coffee shop in a small alley of De Tham st., so far we haven't got any customers because its inconvenient and not eye- catching position. We're kinda worried about we can be probably going broke soon. So, I am thinking about looking for a bigger house for hostel and restaurant since I've known how to cook.

Right now, I'm looking for a business partner who will have the similar idea like mine. Well, my email is woden.frigg@gmail.com, if you're interested in talking about this, I'll be there.

Best,
Tran Nguyen
