A DAY IN THE LIFE

I just came back from a weekend on the North Coast.   It was the first time off I have taken since October 13th.  I had a blast!!!!  Wow it was sure hot -  pool in the morning was fabulous, by  2pm the water is too hot to be refreshing so we went to the beach.......LOL

I dance four straight nights!  Yes, my feet hurt now but it was soooo worth it.   I caught up with some friends, had some great food,  had a blast with my  friend Drea from Canada,  and oh lordy did we all laugh........

One little damper -  friend cut her foot - 8 stitches but  the clinic was awesome.

I definitely need to do this more often, I am not going to wait 6 months again!!!!

On a sad note, my poor puppy is still sick.  She  had a urinary tract infection and was being treated with antibiotics. It would get better for a day then revert.  Eventually went to a second vet,  Tiny was put in overnight and treated. Came out somewhat better.  18 hours later high fever and lethargic again. She went back in.  Now  infection appears to be handled but she has a distended stomach even when not fed and she is barely making any urine.  Xrays later for the poor baby!!!!   She had been putting on weight at a rate of almost  2 pounds a week and she is not skinny skinny!  There is something seriously wrong with her.  Hoping for good news later today.

Glad ou finally took time off.  Sad about your pup.   It sounds like a severe parasitic problem.   Did you get her from a breeder or a pet store?  Did you meet her parents & litter mates?  If so, check to see if the problem is an endemic one within her clan.   Good luck with your baby.

Bob K

Glad you had a good time.  Sorry about the worry but not like you not to be here on the forum for a couple of days.

Good luck with Tiny.  I know our dogs are like our kids...NO they ARE our kids :D

Bob K

Tiny IS my baby....    She has been deparasited  Gypsy  3 times.   SHe has all her shots. She was on  5 kinds of antibiotics but we kicked the infection. She has SEVERE anemia and that has some underlying cause which is what we are searching for now.  Unfortunately  one cause is genetic.

met the parents and the other kids,  parents are both robust healthy  pure breds.  Tiny has always been a quieter puppy so my guess is she has always had anemia and the infection just ramped things up.

We are investigating all the possibilities. I am reading everything I can find on it and know what to ask and learning what to watch for. I SOOOOO appreciate your comments and suggestions - so thank you!

GLAD TO   HEAR YOU HAD A BLAST ON YOUR MINI VACATION AND SO SORRY ABOUT YOUR DOG.. I HOPE IT IS GOING TO GET BETTER SOON.. SOUNDS VERY SERIOUS.

planner

Thanks, the vaca was awesome. Dog is not. She has severe anemia and we cannot figure out the underlying cause which may mean it is genetic although no other dogs have it.    It might just be a matter of time for her unfortunately and its breaking my heart.

Bob K

So sad.  We are thinking of you and tiny.

Bob K

planner

Thanks Bob!  I just brought her home from the vet.  She is lethargic still.  They have given her  what they give pregnant women for  anemia! If you can imagine.

They gave her  3 times the dose plus I am supposed to put her on adult dose of folic acid. Pretty sure that is not a good idea in a dog of 12 pounds.  8 days ago she was almost 16 pounds.

Apparently  on Monday they almost lost her and that led to the dosing of what they give pregnant women.  THe vet actually took her to a people doctor......

Am I worried, yup. Not sure what to do next.

Tomas Cabrera

Planner, say a prayer for your baby, Also for the people in
Constanza and Samana province from the fires.
We all need rain.

planner

Yes,  I always try to keep in mind that there are way worse things happening all over.  While my heart breaks imagine those in the midsts of these fires, or the earthquake etc. IT is all relative!

We need rain!  I will be doing the rain dance.

Bob K

We too along with the gardens are doing the rain dance...

Bob K

Tomas Cabrera

OK, what is going on???
Cuba is drowning & we are in severe drought.
A new high for Cabrera, 35 & Puerto Plata, 30.

planner

It was  37.5 C yesterday in Puerto Plata.  Its  37C here in La Romana today!  Bloody hot.  Yup we need rain.

gypsy401

I know what all of you are having to put up with.   Here in central Florida those are normal summer temps.   And no breezes..   Add humidity and it is a true hell.  It will be back to normal for you soon,  have faith.

Bob K

It was actually too hot to stay on the beach today.  I felt like I was in a roasting oven and could not stay in the water all day or burn my shoulders to a crisp.  Went  home to the AC in the bedroom. :D

Update time:

Tiny is doing so much better!  She acts like a regular (but larger size) puppy.  She runs around terrorizing us all here at the office, she sleeps under my chair so I have to be careful when I move and she bloody well snores.............   She has toys everywhere but her favorite is her food bowl. Once empty she bats it around and chases it!  Hysterical.

But she is going back to the vet for follow up tests to see what is going on. Clearly she is feeling better but we need to investigate the underlying issue with the anemia.

Work is amazing.  We are now setting up the biodiesel facility. We purchase waste vegetable cooking oil and convert it to biodiesel for use at our farm!  The whole process is fascinating. I have staff now out writing contracts with restaurants, hotels, casinos etc etc to buy their oil.

First we had to secure a location  - lots of rules. THEN we had to get "certification" from Medio Ambiente.  We got that in record time - I have some great staff!  Now we are setting up, clearing, organizing and renovating the facility.  Next we put together the machinery and then the experts fly in from the USA to teach them how to make biodiesel!  Then our Dominican experts will teach others!

Today is payday - meaning  banks, stores,  cable companies, cell phone companies will all be swamped with people..............   and then the weekend. Oh yes , pay weekend means lots of drinking and dancing  and partying.........

Enjoy everyone.

Bob K

Yes today is not the day to pay bills or go to a bank.  Bill paying day will be Monday for me.

Glad tiny is doing better.  Funny our 7 year old 140 pound Rottie still chases his food bowl around and stil sleeps under my chair or desk

ALL GOOD NEWS ! WONDERFUL ! ENJOY THE DANCING THIS WEEKEND !

planner

Dancing tomorrow night,  first some work some painting and then some dancing.......

Today we had some serious rain!!!! WOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Tomas Cabrera

Lucky corner of our island!

planner

We had some good rain the last couple of days at the farm - yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.  And the rain is supposed to return today, maybe tomorrow............    I am hoping that there is enough rain elsewhere to help ease the drought conditions across this island!

Here is an interesting story about my NOT favorite company Claro / Codetel.  Can I just say how much I truly hate their lack of service?  Ok, so that out of the way, we had no choice but to go with their services.  WE are a fairly large customer but not huge. Still I expect SOME level of service. Right.  no.........wrong........

All I want is my bill - either deliver it on paper, OR deliver it electronically.  Either works, I don't even care.   Well  5 months into this I still cannot get a damn bill!   Really -  now understand that if you are 1 DAY LATE They disconnect you! So getting a bill is rather important.  My bills will run to 45 pages or so - its time consuming to check them and then pay them.

I have requested this monthly for  5 months now. I originally set up the account for electronic bills.  Never ever have I got one until I go and ask for a copy of it.  Really - like I have that kind of time.

I went to the regional manager to try to get this resolved - her answer  - call the customer service line.  Really? AGAIN for like the 15th time!!!!  NO WAY.

So we argued by email.  I reminded her:  who the hell the customer was. Her answer - So what?????

Yup that is the attitude.  Gotta love it...............

Tomas Cabrera

You should have gone to see Carlos Slim when he was
in your neighbourhood last week.
He would have fixed it up.

planner

Hahahahaha   too funny,  hey Carlos,  help me out, I can't get my invoices.......LOL  Thanks I needed that giggle.

Tomas Cabrera

OK, so does anybody out there know:
What about ex-pats from countries other than Haiti
that have registered for temp. residency & are
in the middle of getting all documents?
And also, after getting all of them but being told there were
some doc's not complete or correct?
Therefore, "in the process".
I have an Italian/Canadian friend in this situation.

Bob K

I know of one or two in the same boat. Took a "short cut" that will now cost time and $$$ for sure

Bob K

Tomas Cabrera

Thanks Bob.
He did not take any short cuts.
The gov't just want more verification on a couple
of (not too important) things. It does sound like b/s, but they seem
to thrive on that. I was just wondering if, in fact, the
June 15 deadline applies to him or not.
If you believe the process as stated in their requirements,
as long as you have STARTED the process, you are ok to stay here.

planner

That is my understanding, as long as you registered you are covered.  The completion will take month and months....

Tomas Cabrera

I "heard" that as well. 6 months & counting, for me.
My friend is still trying to sort it out.
Oh well, time for a Presidente!

Bob K

Yes once the process is started you are "in the system". However you will need more than one presidente.

Bob K

Tomas Cabrera

That's why I buy Jumbos now! :)

gypsy401

Tomas,   I like my beer cold, frosty cold.  How do you keep the jumbos cold?

Bob K

Mine fit in the frig just fine.

Bob K

Tomas Cabrera

Serve the bottle in a big bowl of ice!
Drink slow or fast, no problema amigo!

gypsy401

Bob,  you put it back in after ou opend it ?  D you pour it into a glass ?  No swigging it from the bottle ?

Tomas Cabrera

Glasses, of course, the Jumbos are too
heavy for my retired arms.

Bob K

Put it back after I open it....you are surely joking :D:D:D:D

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the moms here in the DR.

Boy did we just have a hummer of a thunderstorm. Still can't get the little dog out from under the bed.  Storm is over for now but we had about 3 inches of rain in 45 min and thunder that shook the house.  Great for the gardens and I and as a benefit I now have an infinity pool :D

Bob K

planner

We clouded up,  wind picked up (I was cold) and we had lightening but no rain.  The farm got 4 inches of rain!!!  Ok, enough with the rain here......  it can go somewhere else for a bit.....
