Hi All

i have recently moved to Malta from the UK and i would like to buy a car.... until i saw the price of second hand cars here in Malta.

I have asked a few people and have had mixed answers so i hope a few of you can help me.

I want to buy a car in the UK and bring it down through Europe. A. because its cheaper and B. so i can transport a lot of my belongings down to Malta.

Can someone explain if and how this is possible?

Best regards

Jonny

Hi Jonny

we moved over 4 weeks ago with our 4x4.
you will only needed all your documents for the car but please note that if you have not had the car for over (i think) 2 years you will have to pay a big import tax. this sometimes works out to be half the cost of the car. so not really worth it. the cost of cars over here is not great but i have heard of companys long term leasing. costing around 8 euros a day covering all costs.

If you are thinking about bringing a car from the uk i would look at the malta transport website as you will get the info from there.

hope this helps good luck!

check out the registration tax and also check out what the annual circulation tax will be too.....

i say this as a friend of mine bought a uk import second hand here and now has to pay 850 euros per yr road tax and it increases every year he owns it...... zafira 1800cc.
