moving to Nice

Post new topic

rosalind

I am a 55 single woman who would like to move to Nice for six months to become proficient in speaking French. I will need accommodation- renting a room somewhere would be great and I would like to be able to work part time.My career until recently was as a clinical psychologist which means I have a number of transferable skills but I am prepared to do anything (within reason) to support myself.

I also have a TESL certifcate to teach English.

I would be grateful for any advice available.
With many thanks
Rosalind

Welcome on Expat-blog Rosalind! I have moved the thread on the Nice forum. :)
Try the Nice classifieds > accommodation section.

Good luck!

Hey Rosalind,
I just answered Fiona query.  So I'm going to tell the same to you. This link might be an avenue for you to explore.

The Rectorat or Académie de Nice will have postions for all kinds of assistants for a portion of the school year.  Running from October/November to May.  Like I said to Fifi in her thread, the pay is about 750 euros net per month, for a 12 hour work week.  You need a bachelors degree to qualify (generally), and your certificate will certainly help.  Do not try and get this job, and then get working papers, you need to have the papers first.  On a student visa, which you are eligable for if you are enrolled in courses, you can legally work 20 hours a week.  Look into the the Université's foreign student language program.  Tuition won't be expensive.  In 2000 I paid 1200 Dollars Can. for two semesters.  30 hours a week of courses.  Your french will take off... and you'll be able to work legally atleast a little.  I don't know how much it costs in Nice, but look into it if you're going to be there during the school year.  Good luck.
