Hello everybody!

I'm currently planning my first backpacking trip (on my own) to the countries I mention on the subject and it would be great to get some tips about itineraries, what to bring...

Please, anybody knows where I could buy a good and not too expensive backpack in KL? And some complementary items like this cube that you put inside to separate things?

I am leaving next trip starting in Vietnam. Any advise will be very welcome!!!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Have a nice day! :)

Hi..
I have been to Vietnam but I have never been to Laos dan Myanmar.

In Vietnam I only went to HCMC. Then from there I crossed to Cambodia in Pnom Penh City. Sadly I didnt go to Angkor Wat due to my limit time.
HCMC is small city. You can spend in 1-2 days. After that you can go out from there and move to other city or country. Hanoi is usually next destination. But it is quite far if you take by bus. Please see map first coz Hanoi is at North while HCMC is in South. Hanoi has good place to see such as Halong Bay.
From HCMC to Cambodia is quite near. By bus you can take 6 hours. Bus is very slow. It will cross Mekong River.
Hope my information will help you.
Happy traveling

Thank you, putri_jogja!

My flight is actually to Hanoi and from there I was planning to go north (maybe) and Hoi An (I heard it is nice).

I have been to Cambodia already, so, I will skip this country. It is great destination though!

I am planning to take a few flights to avoid long distances by bus as I am aware about the roads conditions...

My first itinerary in mind is: Hanoi, (maybe the North too), Hoi An and take a flight to Myanmar, later another flight to Laos and maybe from there cross to Chiang Mai or flight to some island in Vietnam before I come back to KL (where I live)... I don't know if this is the smartest itinerary... I need to spend more time checking flight connexions...

Hi again,

Thanks!

I don´t know for how long  exactly. From 3 to 8 weeks... I'm free now and live closeby, so when I get bored or tired, I can come back anytime... ;)

One information... The North of Vietnam is top 10 of the world for pickpocket and street robbery (motorbikes)... They are too fast that you can't even see their bike model.

Always have GPS on if you dont want to over-charge by the taxi there. (only use Mai Linh taxi - green color)

Food and sightseeing are fantastic. Expenses should be very cheap but not for Vietnamese from the South and foreigners.

Have fun there.

Thank you so much for the advise, noisysteps! I'll be careful!

I'm leaving next Thursday with my husband and on Sunday, he comes back to Malaysia and I keep going on my own. Maybe some friends join me later somewhere...
