Hi.

We plan to move to Accra and have a few unanswered questions.

1.Can you please advise us on at least 3 suburbs close to East Legon, Accra, where we can look for accommodation and also the suburbs to avoid.

2.Advise us on a good international health insurance that is top in Ghana.

3.What is the cost of communication: cellphone, 3G/WIFI? Is there service providers, support and repairs?

4.Witch is the preferred bank to use?

5.In your opinion, what vaccinations should we take? We looking at Yellow Fewer, Hepatitis A&B, Typhoid, Polio, Meningitis.

6.General safety in Accra eg. Driving to work, Housing, Shopping and traveling.

7.What will be the cost to buy the necessary furniture, like a bed, lounge suite, tv etc.

What else is there that we should think about?

We looking forward to meet new friends :)

That is a lot of information but I will do my best.
1.East Legon is a suburb and you should find suitable accommodation there. Look on accraexpat.com at their housing section as it gives lots of information about the different areas in Accra
2. Health insurance depends on your needs and budget. A lot of expats use WARA here for emergencies but Bupa is good for general health insurance
3. There are a lot of cellphone providers and again it depends on preference. MTN, Airtel, Vodaphone are probably the main ones.
4. Again with banks it depends on preference, Ecobank, Standard Chartered, Barclays, are perhaps the most well-known.
5. You will need yellow fever as you can't get into the country without it. You should also have the others including tetanus, rabies and TB. Look on websites which recommend vaccinations for Ghana
6. Accra is generally a safe place and you need to take the sort of precautions you would in your own country
7. As with anywhere it depends on the quality you are looking for. You can buy locally made furniture for a few hundred cedis to high quality ones from places like Orca for thousands of dollars. Melcom has reasonable furniture and a bed will cost around 1500 cedis and a lounge suite around 3000 cedis. Most things that are imported here are expensive. Look at Game or samsung ghana for prices.
If you look on accraexpat you will see things that people who are leaving are selling and that might give you a better idea as to prices.
Good luck with the move
