Hey guys, i need some advice. I have been working in a bar for the past two years, part time, we get paid very low 120kr an hr, part time work, no extra pay for most bank holidays only may 1st and may 17th. the owner just says find another job if you are not happy, and tells all the staff that we are lazy, he tries to cut out pay claiming we were late etc and when confronted on his lies eventually gives the money back, and then to top if off he has now gone into a new co ownership, in which the new owner will be sorting out shifts, wage etc. And he now says he will get rid of some of us when the time is right, and in the mean time we dont get  set hrs to work, we are only told a day or two before that there is work there if we want it. Is there any employment laws that can protect us here? Or can this just happen and we need to suck it up and get a new job?

Hi,

It all depends on your contract. If your contract is for a defined number of hours, then it's not possible to reduce it as it is done now. If it is, a type of "on-call" contract without minimum hours it is not much to do. If you get laid-off, do not hesitate to take the case to court or to threaten to do so, just to get some money. The owner may be worried to get an investigation on his business and will pay you off to keep a quiet life.

Yes, we dont have a contract, (though i asked in the past numerous times), but it can be seen that our wage has been paid by the company and we more or less work 12 shifts a month some times more. The new owner took over May 15th and now has the atitude that he can fire us whenever he wants, but just needs us there until he learns the ropes of the bar. We still dont have a rota for days at all! And he is constantly talking about us to customers at the bar (one of which happened to be my friend).

I know its a shit situation, but im currently writing my thesis so i kind of need a job and to find a new one will be effort when i should be focusing my free time on study!

The university idea sounds good, thank you for the advice.

Also might i add, iv worked there for over 2 years, and my co worker works full time, up to 206hrs a month!

2 years without contract? Do you get paid in cash or officially with a skattekort?
