As a tourist (i.e. with a visa of less than 6 months), you are not legally allowed to rent residential property, which is by law forbidden to rent out for periods below 6 months.
If you don't have friends who allow you to stay with them as guest for free, you must stay in hotels, hostels or serviced appartments. The cheapest rooms available are around S$80/night (and offer no luxuries - you're lucky if it's relatively clean!). Beds in shared dorms are cheaper than that if you can accept the lack of privacy and security.

Wow, this is a great info. Thanks a lot. I have heared, in Geylang, you get cheapest hotels $30 - $50 ... is that right? is that place to stay ?? any inputs ??

Geylang is the red light (i.e. prostitution) district of Singapore. It is not advisable to stay there if you have other motives than paid sex.

Hotel 81 and Frangrance Hotel are the leading budget hotel chains and probably the best value for money you can get.
They also don't rent out rooms by the hour, so prostitution is less even in their Geylang locations.
Any place cheaper than them is certainly dubious!

This place is in a convenient location, has character and is a favourite with backpackers:

Simple rooms start at S$60/night (shared bath) and dorm beds S$25. I've never stayed there, but friends recommended it.

Thanks a lot Bro.

Cheers!!!
