Hello,
A friend of mine had told me that if I happen to study in Norway (I'm a non-Norwegian), then I'll be prohibited from working in Norway for 10 years.

Can someone clear this out? Is it true or just a misunderstanding?

I think that your friend might be teasing you. I haven't heard of any such rule but on the contrary, heard that you can apply for a 6-month "Job Search" Visa after you graduate, which will give you the right to live and search for jobs in Norway.
