Thank you for this Blog!  So many good vibes..not overly sugar-coated.
I am a photographer/new media producer specializing in the NGO sector.  My wife teaches yoga and is a Thai Yoga Massage practicianer. We have two boys aged 8 and 18months.  We have decided to take the next year to base ourselves in Chieng Mai.  It will be a challenging adventure without a doubt!
My questions revolve around work visas, traveling w a baby, finding a 3 bedroom house, best areas to live, schooling for our 8 year old, where can a canadian go to watch the occasional hockey game (or NBA game for that matter...) ok ok ok, I'll stop there. I'd love to hear from any other creative professionals and, of course any other families out there who have some Thia experience!
Peace!
Stephen

Hello Stephen

Welcome to Expat.com.
Could you explain your questions more specific ,a 3 bedroom house are you going to buy or rent?
Best area? Is mean peaceful area or a convenient commercial area ect.

We are looking to rent a 3 bdrm home for one year. Whaen I say "good" area I mean safe, yet the closer to centre, the better.  I am curious about schools for my 8 year old but have not even started this search yet. We are coming to Thai to experience a beautiful culture (warts and all) that we'd never get to experience otherwise.
I am also curious about home/day care for my 18momth old....

So many questions...so little time.

Thank you!

Sawasdee Stephen,

There are many international schools here. You can get the school first and find accommodation near school.

Let me know if I can be any helps.

It IS helpful, thank you so much!
I think it will be so much easier to gain perspective once we get there. Almost impossible from way far away...but we continue to try :)
QUESTION: When does the school season start?  Here in North America, as you know, its September.
Also curious about finding a network of parents who home school...

Thanks again :)
