My name is Hannah and I am a Commerce student at the University of Sydney, Australia. I am going on exchange to Norway to study at the beginning of next year (2014). I will only be studying for 6 months and was wondering if you could give me advice on gaining part-time employment whilst studying and then full-time employment once I finish?

Similarly, my boyfriend is looking to come with me. He is a very experienced industrial electrician. He has worked in power stations and refineries. I was wondering if you could also give me some advice for finding him work. How easy is it? What companies should he contact? What certifications or qualifications must he have to work in the country?
Also, he has an Irish passport, what kind of working visas would he need to apply for?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Regards,
Hannah

Hello Hannah and welcome to Expat.com :)

Regarding the working visas for Norway, you may read this article Work visas in Norway and also browse the threads on this forum; Information on visas Norway for better insights.

I would also suggest you to post your resume/CV with all your qualifications, skills and experiences in the Temporary work in Norway section and specify which kind of job you're looking for.

Your boyfriend should also post his resume/CV in this section; Electrician job offers in Norway.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and wish you good luck.

Karen :)

Hi Hannah,

I think without being able to speak Norwegian, it might be difficult to find employment. You can find job listings at www.finn.no and www.nav.no.

Having an Irish passport should make things easier. It's more or less just a formality to register at the police station and with the tax authorities. You can read about the current immigration requirements here: http://www.udi.no/Norwegian-Directorate-of-Immigration/

Where will you be studying?
