Belize Bound in 17 Days

Hey Everyone!

I just wanted to thank everyone for all of the excellent information that you have provided on this forum.  I am a member of a different forum also and there tends to be a lot more arguing and it's hard to get to the actual answer.

We are very excited! My boyfriend and I begin our stay for a month in Hopkins and then will travel around looking for a more long term stay.  I have soaked up a lot of information and can't wait to start this new chapter in our lives.

I can't remember which post I read it on but someone mentioned there was a Craig's List for Belize....can someone send me a link?  I looked for it on Craig's List and couldn't find it.  I want to start getting an idea of where there are rentals available and how much they run.

Other than showing up in Belize on August 20th, with hopefully the driver that we scheduled with the property manager of the place we are staying, ready to pick us up......we have no plan.  We are going to learn as we go and go with the flow.  I guess as they say it's the journey not the destination that is important.

Armed with all I have learned from the blogs I have read, 4 suitcases full of what will now be considered our worldly possessions, and my expectations in check we will see you all at the end of the month.

Its called Craig's list Belize, but it is not associated with the real Craig's list.

There is also a Craig's List Caribbean, which is associated with the real Craig's list.

Then simply the Belize Forums has a number of ads.

I simply googled rentals in Belize and found a number of places to look at. Or google rentals in Corozal Belize, or what ever City you are interested in.

Thank you for the quick response Hawk! Would explain why I couldn't find it on Craig's List.

Really the best way to find what you are looking for is to be here. Find the local place where the Gringo's and expats hang out.

Searching the internet is much harder than being here. Most rentals don't get posted to the internet.

I actually booked a studio apartment before I came, and when I arrived it was not available.

lpalo

I figured that would be the best way.  We have a place for the first month....so we will start doing some networking once we arrive.
We are arriving in the low season, figuring that it would be harder to find a place to rent during the high season...I hope this is correct on our part, otherwise we spend our first month in the rain in vain.

No you are correct, but there are a large number of places for full time residents that don't go up during tourist season.

Like right now there are many homes and apartments for rent in Corozal. I wouldn't call this a tourist center, but its 45 mins to Orange walk and 10 mins to the Mexico border.

Everybody has a different budget and needs, but you will quickly find your way.

lpalo,

Let us know how it's going on your trip down there. You can be the eye's and ears for some of us who are contemplating the same move.

Will do Ned!

I did start a blog, but it is only one post so far...a work in progress.  I will be more diligent about posting to it once we actually fly out.  The blog is at blogginginbelize.com/.

Wish us luck!

Ipalo  welcome to Belize.   when you come to check out Corozal, plz contact me via a private message and we can have lunch and I will be happy to share my experiences and observations to date.  You will find that many people will be helpful.

I congratulate you on whittling down your possessions.  At this moment we are in the USA, attempting to do exactly that & it is a struggle.  We return to Belize this week, hopefully with much less being shipped.

Best Luck

Thank you for the lunch invite....I will take you up on that for sure.

We lucked out on whittling down. We currently rent a place in Portland, OR and a good friend of mine who happens to be getting a divorce and is leaving with nothing will be taking over the house we rent and everything in it. It's hers if we decide to stay in Belize for good and ours if we decide to come back.  It was surprisingly easy to figure out what I can and can't live without...I am not a much of a material girl so for me super easy...for my meterosexual boyfriend it has been a bit tougher..haha!

I can't believe how fast the move is sneaking up on us...2 weeks tomorrow.
