Hi everyone, we are potential newbies thinking of moving to Cyprus from Malta. We are both retired not yet in state pensions but are 100% self sufficent. We ve lived in Malta for 5 years now and think it may be time to move on as Malta is not what we thought it was...

Anyway we have only been on holday to cyprus twice and loved it but we know having lived in Malta for 5 years as expats that its different living to holidaying.

we would especially like some information on residency identification registration etc, average accom costs, weekly food shopping, elec water and gas costs, fuel for cars, is there any problem bringing our new (malta bought and registered) car with us, same goes with our cat, also internet phone and tv services.

we ve been told (but dont know) that Peyia is a nice place to live.

we are not party animals but we do like to go out for a beer a couple of times per week eat out a couple of times a month.. but nowt flash.

whats the prices of fags drinks etc
what are the local refuse services like - is there council taxes rates etc

what are the hi/lo temperatures in winter and summer
thanks in advance

HI toonarmy9752,

Life in Cyprus is great, the cost of living is pretty much the same with other European countries.

If you guys like sun and sea you will love Cyprus....Are you planning to buy a house or you are looking for rent?

Regards

Chrisis.

Thanks i was about to give up on replies...lol

we are currently living on Malta and would only consider renting. yes we like the sunny side of life and being near the sea and beaches etc. Dont really want too touristy but not too quiet

Paphos and Peyia would be perfect for you...many people from UK bought residences in that area....
I live in Limassol (which i consider the best:)) especially for corporate reasons.

Rent for 1 bedroom flat can be somewhere between 250-350 euro.

As a mentioned previously cost of living in Cyprus is more or less same with other European countries...

9-10 months sunshine ....:)

sounds very much like Malta... we came to malta a little blind but we learned a lot and very quickly. many pitfalls beset the newly arrived ex pat. is that the same for new arrivals in cyprus. in terms of res permits, work permits, 2/3/4 tier utility pricing....dual tier bus fares, problems getting bank accounts etc

Good-morning,

Go to the topic :Cost of living in Cyprus you can find some information on prices....

You can easily open  bank a/c in Cyprus banks and you are allowed to bring your car tax free since you are UK citizens.

We follow the UK systems in CY(Tax,driving)generally there are no traps here-except what happened to the deposits in Cyprus Bank and Popular Bank in March .

Decisions where beyond our powers... :)
