Hi,

I was wondering if maybe anyone is leaving this beautiful country this summer and is going to organize a garage/moving sale? We are moving to a new house in July or August and we will need furniture, kitchen appliances, baby staff and much more and we'd rather buy second hand than all new:)

Please keep this post in mind and if you hear of any sale coming please post it! I'm sure we won't be the only ones interested:)

Thanks in advance!

I think if you buy new stuff is better, there is an OK Chinese furniture in Tripoli - Jamaa'a Alsagaa' Furniture market.

its quite cheap there

When we arrived in Libya a year ago, we bought two large Chinese made wardrobes and some other furniture. The quality of this stuff is crap - when we moved house last month, the wardrobes literally fell apart when we tried to move them. I would touch this rubbish with a 10 foot pole in future!

You'll be lucky to find any decent second-hand furniture, people normally take all their good things with them when they leave.

You'll be much better off buying good quality furniture in Poland and shipping it over in a container.

Thanks for advice.
We won't ship furniture from Poland cause it's just too expensive for us. So far we send by air cargo a few most important things (like 85 kilo of them;) and not only it was really expensive but also my husband has been trying for almost 2 weeks now to pick it up - apparently it's stuck at customs and they insist we hire an agency to pick it up for us. It's like living in Poland in the 80's all over again!
Anyway, I'm surprised that people go back and forth with all their furniture and staff, I know many expats in Warsaw and every summer I go to their moving sales:)
Well, I guess we'll have to buy some chinese crap or try to figure out something else...
Thanks again!

there is a good quality Chinese stuff. I can help you choose and with low price, I have a number of friends who sell furniture. About the wardrobes you can get Italian made ones, they are not expensive, also there are Italian bedrooms which are a bit more expensive than Chinese ones.

feel free to contact me if you need any help.

yeah it does fall apart... the trick is not moving ; )

Keep the card from the shop you bought your furniture and when you move, give them a call to send someone to take it apart for you and then re-assemble.  Some stuff is total garbage, but there is some good stuff out there.  We actually found a very solid wardrobe locally made.  The kids bedroom suite is not as good (made in China) but it was very well priced.  There are furniture shops in all areas of the city. For reasonably priced check out Abu Salim area which has many furniture shops along one street.
