Hi all, names Maverick Small.
I'm just waiting on my Visa for the next few days then off to Hanoi (or wherever) to live the dream.
Been backpacking for over 2 years now and just had a look at my bank account, yikes..  :/

I always look back on backpacking Vietnam as the best days of my life, particularly motorbiking adventures through the Central Highlands. I can't wait to get back out there.

So, I've just completed 140+ TEFL training, did a few weeks volunteer work at a school in India, and now hope to find a full-time job in Vietnam teaching English or serving cocktails on the beach. Any leads would be extremely helpful and appreciated.

Looking forward to meeting the expats.  :top: Do not let me go home yet.

Cheers,
Mav.

Welcome to Vietnam!

Dear Maverick,
as you are Cacuasian from Australia (We call it Nguoi Tay) it will be EASY to find a teaching job here. The demand for native English teacher is high so don't worry about it.
Get some copies of your resume and head to all those big schools like ILA & Apollo. You should be able to get one soon. In the meantime you can offer private lessons :)

I'm not a teacher since I'm not Native  (but I teach English for a charity) but knowing many teaching expats here. PM if you have questions.

Happy Traveling!

Hi Mae,

Thanks a lot for that, great to hear from you. Looks like today I will shave my beard, print out some copies of my C.V and get to it.
I will definitely P.M you if I have some questions.

Also, I have been talking with a company about working in Hai Phong City, it looks beautiful on Google haha. What do you think about that place?

So you're already in Hanoi?
I've never been to Hai Phong.City. Honestly I've been to the North (going next month though). I can imagine how lovely it is. There is a German Expat living in Hai Phong. You should contact her since she has been living there for a while and she is married to a Local:)

If you wanna come down to Saigon, let me know:)

Mavvys

No no, still in Thailand. I'll be in Vietnam on Sat/Sun. Everything's ready to go, I'm just trying to decide whether I should go to Saigon or Hanoi first.

When I opened the blog, it translated everything to English. It's very interesting thanks. I will contact her if I get the job. :)

Plenty of english jobs in Hanoi for those with a degree and TESOL. I think AMA is a good company to work for and they seem to have a lot of projects going on. I work for AMA in Da Nang.

Saigon is crazy. Some call it Bangkok on Steroid:)
I love Saigon but the air pollution and the traffic here sometimes annoys me... Looking for a quite place to chill

Hanoi can become boring after a while. Nothing special about nightlife, people "supposed" to be more unfriendly and not so welcoming (heard so, never experienced this)

Handful of my friends moved down to SGN since it's just to dull in the North:p

Crazy Buffalo

I was born and grew up in Hai Phong, and the North culture is in my blood. However, I find that living in the South is more interesting, more chances for your own career. People are more simple and friendly...Just my thought! :)

Mavvys

Yeah I had a lot of fun in the South in terms of Nightlife, I'm a bit worried that i may get a little bored in Hanoi/ Hai Phong.
I remember many times when the older locals were quite unfriendly towards me, but nothing too bad. The younger people  I met were fun and very talkative though.

Maybe I can spend my weekends in Ha Long Bay? or Cat Pa island? :D
