The other side of the Filipino postcard

Post new topic

Julien

Hi,

As a tourist in a foreign country, very often, we are enchanted with what we discover.

Living abroad is different. It's a rich experience but there are also some difficulties to face.

When people ask me for advice on living abroad, I then tend to say that one should also look at both sides of the postcard.

As an expat in the Philippines, how would you describe the two sides of your Filipino postcard?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Julien

Funny you ask this as it was the topic of a recent discussion between my Filipina wife and I. I really would like to spent 50% of our retirement years in the Philippines. I am a Kano born in Minnesota. She wants to just stay in the US, she is Ilokana, but grew up Manila.
The perceptions of both of us are colored by our respective backgrounds. The grass is greener on the other side for us both. Just happens to be opposite sides of fence. Marriage is compromise, so we live in Hawaii. Visit Minnesota and PI when we can.
